Case Study

The Challenge

A stats site only earns attention when two things are true at once: every number is real and traceable, and the product has an identity strong enough to be worth sharing. Most "stats" content online is unsourced screenshots with no brand behind it. I wanted a fast public site where you find a surprising number, see exactly where it came from, and actually want to share it.

My Approach

STATSBUZZ turns curated, sourced data into clean public stat pages, rankings, trending and category pages — each showing its source name, link, and the date the figure is as-of. It runs on Next.js 16 (App Router, React Server Components, ISR) with Supabase (Postgres + Row-Level Security) behind an admin that enters and publishes data by hand — no scraping, no guessing. I built guardrails against the usual "stats site" dishonesty: deltas only render when the unit is known (never a bare +21), and ranked lists draw bars only where a comparable number exists, so nothing is faked. Every share link renders a dynamic OG card (next/og) carrying the number and its source, and SEO is wired end to end — dynamic sitemap, robots, canonical URLs and per-item metadata.

Design — the "hive"

The visual identity is deliberately bold and playful, built around a bee/honeycomb system so it reads as a real data-media brand rather than a generic template: a hexagon "hive-cell" bee mark, a honeyed-ivory + warm-ink + honey palette, Bricolage Grotesque for the big numbers, honey "ranked bars", and a signature "wait, what?" card that reframes a percentage as a share-of-the-whole — the shareable hook. Full light and dark themes, responsive down to phone width, with the same bee carried onto every OG share card.

The Results

Live at statsbuzz.vercel.app with real, sourced numbers across AI, startups, SaaS, tech companies, social media and developer tools — drawn from named sources like the OECD, Gartner, GitHub Octoverse, Stack Overflow, DataReportal and SEC filings. This is an active work in progress that I design, build, and run end to end. The V0 foundation — public site, admin, RLS, SEO, share cards and the new brand — is live today. STATSBUZZ ships in versions, with a roadmap planned through V5; each release grows the data coverage, discovery and product depth, while keeping the one rule that matters: every number stays sourced and dated.
