Cutting Board Turned Tree | Do you love trees? This cutting board turned Christmas tree is so sweet! How would you decorate yours? #restorationofheartandhome #trees #christmas... | By Southern Crossroads Creations LLC | Hey guys this is Vicky with Southern Crossroad Creation I grabbed this little cutting board and my Waverly chalk paste and snow white and I went ahead and did somewhat of a dry brushing technique on my little cutting board and then what I did is I grabbed a baby wipe and then I went back and actually wiped the cutting board with the baby wipe and it kind of left it just a really pretty kind of a snowy white on there and you'll you'll notice that but Make sure that you do this when it's still wet. Uh don't you know and also I did thin my paint out with water. Okay, this came from Dollar General and this was just a little wood kit that I found and so I absolutely love this new Waverly. It's new to me. It's called Moss. I really love this color. It's just a really pretty green and so what I did is I just went ahead and painted the entire piece And then once you get this I did not thin this one with water at all. This one was just straight paint and I only did the one coat. Now you could definitely do two and I didn't paint the sides as well because they're you know kind of the brown color. So I'm only going to use one of these pieces of wood. Now they're made to go inside one another and kind of have like you know you stand them up on the counter. But this is what I'm going to do with mine. So this is just a kind of an idea to give you. Okay once I dried that the I went ahead and hot glued that right onto my cutting board. Now you could staple it all the things but this is not I mean obviously going to go outside or anything. So I felt like this hot glue would pretty much Okay then once you you'll notice it still has that little slit and so what I did is I didn't want the wood showing through so I went ahead and painted that as well. Now once that dried I grabbed me some muslin fabric and then some other striped fabric and we're going to make just little bows to go onto the tree. Now mine is being more like a vintage kind of rustic but you could definitely do whatever type of decor like you have you could match this with this piece. So if you love the golds or if you love red and green which I absolutely do love red and green but this is going to go somewhere different in my home so I wanted it to be very muted and just very rustic so I took some twine and I went ahead and did some loops to make it look like garland again they have so many different materials that you could use with this this is just to kind of get your juices flowing just to figure out you know kind of make it your own but this is kind of just to show you what I did. Okay, once you get that down the one side, then you're going to go back and you're going to do the other side as well. Now, don't worry about the little piece in the middle that you can see. That's going to be pretty much covered once we get done and we're also going to fill it in with this twine as well and then we're going to paint over it. So, it kind of gives it a very, it's not going to have that much of an indention on your piece once you get that twine placed into that groove and you'll see that here in just a minute. Okay, so all I did was just tie these little bows exactly like you would your tennis shoes. Um it's just folding one over and then all I did instead of looping them and tying them I took the twine and actually tie them in the middle. So you'll see kind of how I did that. Just fold it over just like that. And then once you get that folded you're going to just take your twine. Put it in the middle and then tie it. Now I didn't double knot it just because I didn't want that knot for it to stick out from the tree. So I just left the one knot right there. And then I realized I put it in the wrong place. But this will give it some you know hold it and all of the things. So you don't really need to do the double knot. Okay and then once you continue on you can make as many of these or as few of these as you you know choose to. I wanted kind of one on every branch because I wanted it to look nice and full and fluffy. But that just depends on your preference. I mean obviously you can do many you want or like I said you can do all the other different types of things that they have out there. They have little mini ball garland that you can get at Hobby Lobby in the mini section, Walmart section. There's just a lot you can do with this just to skip you an idea. Okay, once you get all of your bows in place and again, just trim up your little tails there. I did try to do kind of every other. I didn't really pay much attention to that because I just I just love the way these little bows looked on this little tree and then once you get all of those on there. The piece that's in the middle, like I said, we're going to put twine in that and then once we get that twine put in there, I went ahead and take some paint and paint over it but I just want to take a minute just to thank you so much for being on my page. Um thank you for passing my videos down the road which means share, like, and comment and if you do want a full list of supplies, you can message me supplies and I'll get those to you. So, this is what I did. I went ahead and put some glue right in that crease there and then filled it in with this twine. This is going to be the trunk of our tree. So we're going to continue to do this trunk here. Okay I did go ahead and I was going to put another piece of twine there to fill it even more. But then I decided it was going to be a little bit too it wasn't going to fit all the way in there. Now you could definitely do thinner twine and get two pieces in there. But I just went ahead and left the one. Like I said it's going to be covered And then once this dries you're not going to see that area. Okay. Then what I'm going to do is I'm going to continue on with my trunk here. And all I did was I took my barbecue skewer. Pushed it up into the the wood piece there. As far as it will go. And then you're just going to cut it the same length as your cutting board. Now I kind of did a chunky because this tree was you know there was so much going on with it. I really needed I felt like it needed a chunky stem or trunk. And so I went ahead and just did multiples of the twine at the bottom. Now you could definitely stop wherever you you know choose to but I just kind of wanted mine to do it you know kind of chunky down there at the bottom. And I thought it came out so cute. I love the twine and I wish you guys could see it the way I see it up close because it looks like bark on the trunk because of the different variations. Even you know when you'd use twine it's always different variations of color. So it just looks like a little trunk down there and I just love it. Which gives me so many ideas for other projects so I'm just I'm glad that that kind of worked out okay now once that centerpiece dries it hasn't dried yet but it's it's getting there I really didn't even bother drying it it's just going to dry on its own and then what I did is I took both the red and white stripes and the the muslin fabric and made a center bow with both of those fabrics just to kind of blend it all in and you know make it just really full right there to cover up that little crease there. I also thought about doing some baking soda in there. Um that's an idea. Um you could also do you know there's just a lot of variations. Okay. How cute is this coming out y'all. I just thought it was so cute. Alright these little wood stars. I actually I believe I got them at Dollar General. They're in a pack and I'm I want to say Dollar Tree has something similar but they're just little wood stars and all I did was I some antique wax and I just went around the all the different points just to kind of give it some more character and rustic that way it wouldn't get lost on that cutting board as well and then once I got all of the corners like I wanted them then I took some of that antique wax off and then went over the entire star just to kind of give it a little bit of character and a little bit of that rustic vibe. Okay and then all you're going to do is just hot glue that right up to the top. How cute is this? I absolutely love the way this came out. Alright, you know we going to have to have a tag. So grab my paper towel roll. Cut a little piece. And again you can use cardboard for this. You can use but I just paper towels are just something that we use in our home quite frequently and quite abundantly. So I've always have enough paper towel rolls to do tags. Okay this little stamp set came from Amazon. I showed it numerous times on here. If you want the link to that it's a great little to make tags and so all I did was just grab the word the letters joy and so that's what we're going to put on our tree and honestly you could put whatever you choose okay so I couldn't use my whole punch because it definitely would be too big for this tag so I took one of those little push pins that you would use for like like a memo board and then I took my brown I mean my black stamp pad and went around the edges of that then I wanted to go Give it some you know like it's been around a little while. Went ahead and fold it up. A little bit and then took my really thin twine now this twine comes in the packaging section you can get it at Dollar Tree I believe and there's you know most of the time you'll see it like where like gift wrapping and stuff like that is like during the holidays that's I believe where I got this okay and then all I did is I was trying to decide where I wanted it I definitely wanted to do it at the base and so just to kind of bring attention to that little trunk there because it's so cute y'all. And then went ahead and just double knotted it and just tied it in a bow right there. How cute is this? From a cutting board to this and I just thought it was so cute. There's not hardly any supplies into this. I mean, it's just very minimal but how cute is this? Thank you guys so much for being here.
