The Morgan Library & Museum on Instagram: "A previously unknown Chopin waltz has been uncovered in our collection by our Associate Curator of Music Manuscripts Robinson McClellan. This is the first work in the hand of composer Frédéric Chopin to be discovered since the 1930s. While cataloguing manuscripts, McClellan came across one that seemed to be by Chopin--but strangely, it didn't match any of the waltzes he knew. After extensive research with external experts and conservators, it became clear that this was indeed an unknown Chopin work--a major discovery in classical music. The Morgan’s manuscript has 24 notated measures that the pianist repeats once. The beginning is remarkable: several moody, dissonant measures culminate in a loud outburst, before a melancholy melody begins. None
