Piecing a Quilt or Block on Point Here are the formulas you need, and the charts so you don't have to figure it out. Free printable.
This is my latest project. I turned the rectangle of squares on the left into the little quilt on the right with just two cuts. On one of the quilting boards that I read, there was a post from someone who said that to turn a quilt on point, they simply just turned it and trimmed away the excess. That seemed like a lot of waste, and I thought there might be a better way. I had some leftover 5" squares from another project. I sewed them together into a rectangle. This will work if your…
Main - How to put blocks on point with sashing, - I have finished putting all of my blocks together. Next step, Sashing, corner stones and borders. Then I saw a quilt with blocks on point. Need to figure out how. Any good tutorials, out there?
I am fairly new to sewing and quilting. Cutting fabric for a project can be somewhat intimidating. I’m afraid I’m going to cut something incorrectly, not be able to read the pattern correctly, or run out of fabric. Because of this, I prefer patterns that require as little cutting as possible - and with little or no piecing. Please check out my instagram page (@mona.phelps) for the most recent updates on what I'm working on. This quilt/project finishes at 60" x 73".

This is my latest attempt at turning a rectangle of charm squares into an on point quilt. (OK. This is my third time, and you know what they say about the third time!) This little quilt measures approximately 32 inches square and uses less than two charm packs. Sew 72 charm squares ( or 72 5-inch squares cut from your stash) together into a rectangle. The rectangle needs to be a 1:2 ratio so for this one I chose 6 squares by 12 squares. Cut the rectangle as shown in the photo below. I forgot…

Recently I was able to field test a pattern by Hunter's Design Studio. I was a little slow in getting it together, but here's the completed top. 49 x 63 inches http://huntersdesignstudio.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/HDS.035-FourteenOnPoint-Cover-300dpi.jpg The pattern uses 14 fat quarters and is constructed in sections. It's an easy way to make a quilt that looks difficult. I have a few extra fabrics in my version. I was using fabrics from my stash and a few pieces were not fat quarters…

I found this amazing idea for half square triangles by the Missouri Star Quilt Company on Youtube. I thought I would do it to make sure it really works and see how accurate this is...... First take two charm squares. Stack them up, right sides together. Sew a 1/4" all around the outside edge. I started on a side but now realize I should have started in a corner, but it doesn't make that much difference. It will look like this....you can see my little wobble on the left hand corner... Use…
