Do you cut returns for either of the pieces marked or do you just sand the end of piece 1 smooth and use a router (or sander) on the end of piece 2?

If you use crown molding that is the appropriate width and the same color as or a lighter color than the room, it will generally make the room seem taller and larger.

Yes. We are STILL working on the basement and the DIY shiplap walls. (We started the basement project back in June.) This is real life DIY. And real life DIY comes with pregnancy and bed rest (me) and 5 broken ribs (Ryan). That means that finishing the basement has taken about 3 months longer than we anticipated. But, I think it will be worth the wait.
