So I have never really liked these doors but because they are completely functional it is not in my nature to spend money replacing things when they work perfectly fine especially as we are saving up for our extension. However a little DIY upgrade is never out of the question!So I got some 3mm plywood, pole wrap from (@diyherway) and some beading (9x9 pine glass bead moulding) and got to work creating a panelling effect. I started by cutting my ply to cover the old detail on the top and bottom and then a 10cm thick panel for the middle detail. I used no more nails and pin nails to secure it all to the door.Then I cut some pole wrap to size and attached it to the middle panel before cutting the pole wrap down to individual strips and cutting it at the edges at a 45-degree angle. I then attached that on top of the ply to build it up a little more and then I cut my beading to size and also at 45 degrees.I used wood filler to fill the joins and any holes from the nails, waited for it to dry before sanding it back and then caulked all the seams for that ‘seamless’ finish - this is what gives panelling that perfect look. Once everything was dry it was time for the magic to happen. I painted everything in @frenchicpaint’s gorgeous wall paint in the shade PAMPAS a soft, warm and cosy pale beige-toned neutral.
