Kuvoka - Intergalactic EP [SNDST107]

Raised in Istanbul, co-resident in Vancouver, Kuvoka has been making serious and bold waves in the techno scene globally over the last few years. With releases across many major techno imprints and contributions to Second State’s compilation series, he steps up for his solo debut with a contemporary EP ‘Intergalactic’. Kuvoka crafted each and every one of the tracks to create a disruptive series of signature music, perfected to synchronize the crowd.

Title track ‘Intergalactic’ is a true testament to its name, packed full of drones, cosmic hoover synths and sinister rattling synths. Scattered instrumentals and percussive swipes are matched with a jackin’ vocal sample, a contrast to the space elements that blend seamlessly throughout. A highly varied track with unexpected twists and turns that balance perfectly. ‘Deep Sensation’ presents us with a powerful techno roller, complete with bouncing bass and a deep, smooth voice that resounds throughout. The track creates the effect of bouncing between walls, with resounding echoes and stretch out reverbs to again elicit that feeling of outer space. ‘Highway 99’ continues the driving atmosphere of the EP with a steady kick and bass combo, creating a feeling of transcending through the cosmos. Kuvoka injects jagged and electrifying synths, with a vocal sample of someone communicating through a radio frequency over scattered bangs and crashes.

‘Mulholland Drive’ has a playful kick and ticking element, but lures us into a deeper and darker space within the EP. Slow waves of eerie synths wash over a metallic clicking as the track progresses, engulfing the kick and bass combo before tying all elements together to result in a close-eyed dancefloor experience. ‘Monolith’ spurs up the atmosphere once again with a subdued but strident kick and metallic sonics throughout. Airy pads float in with trembling percussion and cosmic synths, adding a cinematic suspense to the EP’s crescendo. The minimal opening is reflected towards the final leg of this cut, where the percussion takes full attention and rattles vigorously ‘til close with the sound of a dwindling alarm.
