After a quiet stretch, Lately Bass Records roars back into action with co-founder Kelmo at the helm, delivering a three-track DnB suite that bridges deep nostalgia with modern edge.
"The Function" is a brooding, high-energy affair. Classic reesey snarls under galloping amen breaks, while off-kilter synth stabs nod toward the darkened corridors of techno. It’s a track that feels like it could’ve scorched pirate radio in 2003, yet still hits fresh today.
Mutt steps in with a remix that smooths it's edges without dulling the impact. Riding a liquid groove and anchored by a buttery M1 organ bassline, his version lands somewhere between vintage Calibre and early Hospital Records - soulful, slightly housey, built for that golden hour dancefloor moment.
Closing the EP is Operator P, who cranks the grit with an MPC-driven jungle workout. It’s all chopped breaks, murky textures, rude-boy swagger. Vintage energy refracted through a 2025 lens.
The Function EP is a compact, versatile statement that reminds us why Lately Bass remains one to watch: rooted in tradition, but never stuck in it.
