Greetings Terrans, happy to share the first minis painted for my Mordion project – 1st squad of 1 Platoon. I shared details of the build & where I sourced all the bits in the last post so I won’t repeat myself, but TLDR, this is going to be a horde army on a budget so the paint job needs to be quick and easy. For inspiration, I really didn’t need to look much further than this piece by John Blanche – that also graced the cover of the RT04 box:

And this is what I ended up with:

I went with the grey/black scheme, but also picked out the webbing pouches in green for a bit of variety. All basecoating was done with Contrast paints, and most highlighting was done quickly with a drybrush. The exception is the flesh, (which had a single ‘proper’ highlight & shade, but I skipped the eyes), and the lenses. The camo stripes & helmet detail went on last & took the longest to do, but all in all I think I did these in a week over 3 sessions. Not too bad at all! Here’s a closeup of the Sgt, lascannon & grenade launcher, showing the bits from Anvil Industries:

And one final shot of the whole squad:

Now I just need to repeat this for the remaining 3 squads plus command!

Greetings Terrans, I hope you’re all well. I’ve been away on a diving trip last week but before I went away, I made some progress on the project I outlined back in March. It is early days, but I have the basic build done for the 4 tactical squads and command section needed for 1 Platoon:

I used the plastic ‘Ohh-Rah’ set from Wargames Atlantic as my starting point – I think that aesthetically they are pretty close to RT04, and at £22.50 for 24 minis, they are a pretty good option pricewise as well. In the Compendium, 1 Platoon squads each have 7 lasguns, 1 grenade launcher and one las cannon, the sergeants all have a las pistols & chainswords and the platoon Captain has a Plasma Pistol. The basic minis don’t have suitable bits for everything and the basic weapons in the kit don’t look terribly Lasgunny, but they will do as generic pew-pew guns. I found what I needed for the more specialised gear on Anvil Industries – I am especially pleased with the shoulder mounted las-cannon proxies! Other than that, the Command Squad Medic & Orderly had a few bits added from my bits box to give them a medkit and banner respectively.

All in all, I spent £55 on Ooh-Rah, and £44 on bits… £99 for a full 4 squad platoon. Are they perfect? No, of course not – some of the posing is awkward, and the kit is pretty basic, but then so was RT04, so in terms of being appropriate I’d say these are pretty much bang on! Certainly I’d say they are more than acceptable for £2.15 per mini 😊

Next, I have to go around them all and fill a shit-ton of gaps with GS – ah, the price of compromise 😂

Rogue Trader/2nd ed. Eldar Army pt 12

Greetings Terrans, I’ve hit a bit of a milestone on my Eldar project that I am happy to share with you today – I have completed the last of my original Eldar miniature pile! As such, this will be the last post on this subject for a while. The model in question is one of the OG Warlock figures, (‘Warlock 2’ to be precise), albeit with some weapon swaps to replace parts that had been chopped off in the dim and distant past. I also painted a companion Gyrinx – I think from the second Colony 87 Kickstarter from 2016… Seemed appropriate for the Warlock to have a psychically attuned companion :-)

Enjoy:

Painting was a very pleasant affair – I love working with dark green, and the rest of the Warlock was handled with Craftworld purple & yellow, combined with bone. The Gyrinx was fun – a nice easy wash & drybrush approach, again, using Craftworld colours. I’m pretty pleased with the tiger stripe pattern!

Anyway, that’s all on this for now – I have picked up a few more minis to round out squads and generally add to the force, but I’ll be taking a break from this army for a while & instead focus in on my Imperial Guard project to reproduce the Mordion 7th, D Company on the cheap – starting with 1st Platoon (Tactical)… More to follow on that soon.
