Life as the sole sale item in the clearance corner of Eben's Bikes can get lonely. So Red, a unicycle, dreams up a clown owner and his own juggling act that steals the show. But all too soon, the applause turns into the sound of rainfall, as reality rushes back. Red must resign himself to sitting in the corner and await his fate.

so pixar started by traumatizing children?????
At first, Red’s Dream is really neat. It has a dark, jazzy atmosphere, and you start to see Pixar implementing more extensive backgrounds into their films. But then we actually see, well, Red’s dream, and OH GOD! It goes from a cute kids short to a fucking horror film! That goddamn clown is now seared in my brain; it is so horrifying. I get that it’s early CGI, but you need to know your limits and cut your losses, Pixar! Overall, a slightly better, yet slightly worse version of Luxo Jr.
Also, some neat trivia: Red’s Dream is actually what inspired Hayao Miyazaki to finally open up to computer animation, after being so stalwart towards hand drawn. He first implemented the technology into Princess Mononoke in 1997.

This actually got an emotional reaction from me. Genuinely sad. Red's movements have personality for the object he is. Has a great style. And the early CGI human looks more stylized, I don't think it looks as bad as people say.
Touching... Pixar slowly starts to grow. It may resort to the overused technique of a dream sequence, but don't we all have illusions? Escaping from a world we didn't ask in the first place, Red's Dream enters that innocent, unavoidable realm.

- Stesso discorso per Tin Toy, erano alle prime armi. Quel clown è abbastanza uncanny valley ahah ma ci sta.
- Comunque non si butta via niente e quindi se siete interessati, sono solo altri 4 minuti di avanguardia Pixariana di fine anni 80.
- I think it's a preschool It LOL.
- Same goes for Tin Toy, they were new to it. That clown is pretty uncanny valley haha but that's fine.
- Anyway, nothing is thrown away so if you're interested, it's just another 4 minutes of Pixarian avant-garde late 80s.
Even in 1987, Pixar made people cry over a unicycle.
