Expo

De restjes sneeuw verdwijnen hier zo'n beetje letterlijk 'als sneeuw voor de zon'. Ik ben benieuwd of er de komende dagen nog verse sneeuw zal gaan vallen....

At the moment the snow is disappearing like snow in summer. I wonder whether the coming days fresh snow will fall ...

Afgelopen zaterdagochtend was ik al bijtijds buiten, lopend door de verse sneeuw op weg naar haar, waar we opgehaald zouden worden door haar om naar de Quiltexpo in Vijfhuizen te gaan. Het was prachtig buiten dus heb ik onderweg alvast wat foto's gemaakt. 't Was me een partij koud! Gelukkig kon ik eerst weer even mijn vingers warmen aan een lekker bakje koffie.

Last Saturday I was outside early, walking through the fresh snow, on the way to her. It was beautiful outside, so I made some pictures en route. It was COLD. Luckily I could warm my hands on a warm cup of coffee.


Bij de Expo, waar het 's ochtends nog flink koud was, hebben we eerst de quilts van Henk van Kooten en Arnout Cosman bewonderd. Prachtig, die mannen kunnen er wat van! Wil je meer/betere/grotere foto's zien, klik dan door op de links.

Nadat we die gezien hadden, waren we toch snel afgeleid (of moet ik zeggen verleid) door de aanwezige winkeliers. Natuurlijk hebben we ook de andere exposities nog bekeken. Hieronder nog wat foto's.

Ik zie net dat de quilt van de paarse boom hieronder wel wat weg heeft van mijn bovenste foto, vind je ook niet?

After we had seen those, we were easily distracted (or should I say seduced) by the attending retailers. Of course we have also seen the other quilt-shows. Some pictures are shown below. I just see that the quilt of the purple tree looks a bit like the tree on my top picture, don't you think?

Nu lijkt het of ik alleen moderne quilts mooi vind, maar dat is echt niet zo. Quilts als deze vind ik ook helemaal te gek, en die kan ik tenminste zelf ook maken....

Maybe it seems that I only like modern quilts, but that really isn't true. I think quilts like these are also totally awesome, and at least I can make these myself!

Heb je nog wat gekocht? Ja dus! Maar ik heb me netjes ingehouden hoor. Patronen van van kleine quilts met papieren en/of perspex mallen, een tijdschrift en maar 2 fat quarters.

Ik wil  nog steeds eens een mooie ajour omslagdoek breien. En toen was daar de stand van Bart en Francis, Belgen, met prachtige wol, zijde en andere garens. Een van de twee was een beste praatjesmaker, die wilde me wel garen verkopen waarmee ik poetsdoeken kon breien. Daar trapte ik mooi niet in! Hun garens gingen als bananen over de toonbank.....en smaken naar meer...

Have I bought something? Yes! But I properly restricted myself. Patterns of 2 little quilts with paper and/or perspex templates, a magazine and only 2 fq. 


I still want to knit a beautiful lace shawl once. And there was the booth of Bart and Francis, Belgians, with beautiful wool, silk and more yarns. One of them was a boaster who wanted to sell me some yarn so I could knit my own cleaning cloths. Haha, he didn't trap me with that joke! Their yarns  went over the counter in banana bags...and very moreish....

Best of Show, detail

Vorige week was ik met Anita, Annelies en Trea in Veldhoven bij de OEQC. Het was die dag prachtig weer, maar daar hebben wij weinig van gemerkt binnen. Alhoewel, misschien was het hierdoor wel zo rustig. We konden alles goed bekijken en ook bij de meeste winkels konden rustig shoppen en met de eigenaren 'beppen'. Hierdoor kwamen we aan het eind van de dag toch weer tijd te kort. Toen we weer op weg naar huis waren, bedacht ik me, ooh, ik zou nog terug gaan naar die en die stand om dat en dat te kopen....

Last week I visited with my friends Anita, Annelies and Trea the OEQC in Veldhoven. It was not so crowded. We could take a good look at the quilts and most booths were not to crowded, so we could have a chat with the shop owners. But at the end of the day we were still running out of time. When we were on our way home, I thought, ooh, I would have gone back to different booths to buy this and that...

Het was weer een feest om al die prachtige quilts van dichtbij te kunnen bekijken. Er waren o.a. exposities van Baltimore Album Quilts,  quilts van Jaqueline de Jonge, en quilts van de mysterybom van de Quilterij uit Den Bosch.

It was a feast to admire all the beautiful quilts up close. There were exhibitions of Baltimore Album Quilts, quilts from Jacqueline de Jonge, and quilts from the mysterybom of Quilterij from Den Bosch.

Vorig jaar hebben we schitterende quilts uit Hongarije bewonderd.  En kijk eens wat er dit jaar te koop was.

Last year we admired the beautiful quilts from Hungary. Look what was for sale this year.



Verder kocht ik nog tashengsels, houten knoopjes en een paar FQ. De FQ kocht ik bij een nieuwe quiltwinkel De Quilthoeve . Deze nieuwe winkel opent 12 mei, maar ze waren dus al met hun stand op de beurs. Slimme zet! De stand zag er prachtig uit met vooral stoffen van French General. We kregen ook nog een leuk blikje met spelden als presentje.

I also bought bag handles, wooden buttons and a pair of FQ. I bought the FQ in a new quiltshop 'de Quilthoeve'. This new store opens May 12, but they were already in their booth at the fair. Smart move! The booth looked great, with especially fabrics of French General. We received a nice tin with pins as a gift.

Bij Lynette Anderson heb ik 2 patroontjes gekocht. Deze mocht ik kopen als moederdagpresentje van mijn liefste Hubby.

At Lynette Andersons' booth I bought 2 patterns. These were my presents from dearest Hubby for Mothers day. 

Op moederdag kreeg ik ook nog een mooi boek van mijn dochters. Nu is het wel weer eens tijd om wat te gaan naaien, genoeg inspiratie!

And my daughters gave me this beautiful book on Mothers day. And now it is about time to do some sewing, enough inspiration!

Fun!

Zaterdag ben ik met Lekprikster Anneke en haar man naar de Patchwork en Quiltdagen in Vijfhuizen geweest. Het was 'great fun'. Er waren heel veel winkeltjes met heel veel 'lekkers'. Maar ja, ik ben aan de lijn, haha, dus ik mocht niet zo veel kopen. We hebben eerst de exposities bekeken.

With Lekprikster Anneke and her husband I visited the Patchwork and Quiltdays. It was 'great fun'. There were many shops with lots of 'goodies'. But I am on a diet, ha ha, so I could not buy much. 
We first viewed the exhibitions.

Dit is een collage van een deel van de quilts van Supergoof. Goof was zelf ook aanwezig. Ik ben benieuwd of ze nog een paar vingerhoedjes heeft kunnen naaien, want er stond constant een groep dames om haar heen. 

This is a collage of some of the quilts of Supergoof. Goof herself was also present. I wonder if she was able to sew a couple of 'thimbles' , because she constantly had a group of ladies around her.

Details van de prachtige quilts van Mariet Soethout-Mous. Van een paar quilts was zelfs de achterkant zo mooi, dat ze zo waren opgehangen dat we de achterkant ook konden bewonderen. Linksonder in de collage is een deel van zo'n achterkant te zien.

Tree of Wishes - Wirginia Essel

Dit is ook één van de Oekraïnse quilts. Toen ik deze quilt zag, moest ik gelijk aan Sarah denken. Zij was mijn swap-partner bij de Dutch Sisters Spring Surprise Swap van vorig jaar. Sindsdien houden we contact via onze blogs en via mail. Sarah is echt een multitalent. Ze is volgens mij een allerliefste moeder, ze kan heel goed naaien, bakt de mooiste taarten en schrijft ook nog een geweldig leuk weblog bij elkaar. 

Wat heeft dat nu me deze quilt te maken. Nou kijk hier, Sarah spaart de kleedjes die in deze quilt zijn verwerkt ook en wil er geloof ik een bedquilt van maken. Sarah, zo'n quilt als deze vind ik ook wel bij jou passen hoor.

This is also one of the Ukrainian quilts. When I saw this quilt, I was thinking of Sarah. Sarah was my swap partner in the Dutch Sisters Spring Surprise Swap last year. Since then we keep in touch through our blogs and via email. Sarah is a real multi-talent. I think she is a great mum, she sews well, bakes the best cakes and also writes a great blog. Why does this quilt make me think of Sarah? Well, look here, Sarah collects doilies which are used also in this quilt. I think Sarah wants to make a bed quilt of them. Sarah, I think a quilt like this is also in your style.

Tja, ik mocht niet te veel kopen dus dat heb ik ook maar niet gedaan (denk ik). Ik heb een kit voor een speldenkussen gekocht die ik cadeau wil geven en het patroon van The Stitch Cottage 'Op stap', een map om naaispullen in mee te nemen. Ik had nog een cadeaubon van Het Hobbyhoekje en daar heb ik een 'Playing with paper pack 4' (papieren malletjes met de bijbehorende acryl templates) van Busyfingers gekocht.

Well, I was supposed not to buy much, so I didn't (I think). I bought a kit for a pincushion as a gift for a friend, and a pattern of a sewing folder. I had a gift certificate from a Dutch quiltshop and I have purchased a "Playing with Paper Pack 4" (paper templates with the corresponding acrylic templates) from Busyfingers.

Zondagmiddag heb ik weer een blok van de Aunt Millie quilt afgemaakt. De foto daarvan bewaar ik voor mijn volgende bericht. Fijne dag!

Tentoonstelling Quiltersgilde Exhibition Dutch Quiltersguild

Vorige week ben ik met Hennie en Annelies naar de jaarlijkse tentoonstelling van het Quiltersgilde geweest. Het was een lange leuke dag. De tentoonstelling was geweldig mooi. Het was die dag prachtig weer en de zon scheen door de kerkramen naar binnen. Dat was helaas niet zo handig bij het foto's maken, er vielen allemaal schaduwen op de quilts. De meeste foto's zijn daarom detailfoto's waarop de verkeerde lichtval op de quilts (bijna) niet te zien is.

Last week I went with Hennie and Annelies to the yearly exhibition of the Dutch Quiltersgilde. It was a nice but long day. The exhibition was pretty amazing. It was beautiful weather that day and the sun shone through the church windows. So taking pictures was not easy, there were all shadows on the quilts. Most pictures are detail pictures so the wrong light on the quilts (almost) can not be seen.

Er waren nog veel meer quilts die ik heel erg mooi vond, maar ik kan ze hier uiteraard niet allemaal laten zien. De nummertjes onder de foto's zijn de nummers van de quilts zoals ze in de catalogus zijn opgenomen.  Hier zullen te zijner tijd waarschijnlijk alle quilts te zien zijn. 

There were many more quilts that I really liked very much, but of course, I can not show them all. In a while,  all the quilts will probably be shown here.

Ik had me natuurlijk voorgenomen om niet al te veel te kopen. Het is redelijk gelukt. Een paar fq batik; een fq roze stof om nog in de AMGQ te gebruiken; een vingerhoed; een nieuwe needle threader (zo'n geweldig draad door de naald doorhaalding) en een pakketje kleine lapjes stof met kartonnetjes waar je dan het patroon bij kreeg. Ik kon het niet laten en ben hier direct aan begonnen. Het is een werkje wat je gemakkelijk mee kunt nemen. Ik werk er aan tijdens de lunchpauze op mijn werk. Wordt vervolgd.... 

Of course I planned to buy not too much. I bought a few fq batiks, a fq pink fabric to use in the AMGQ, a thimble, a new needle threader  and a packet small scraps with English paper piecing templates with a pattern. My fingers itched, so I immediately started cutting, glueing and sewing. It is a needlework  that you can easily take away. I  am working on it during lunchbreak at work . To be continued ....

PS.  Volgens mij ben ik helemaal uit m'n quiltdip!

Allemaal bedankt voor jullie lieve reacties op het blogbericht over het schoolgala van DD1. Ze zag er inderdaad heel mooi uit (hier spreekt een trotse moeder). Ook haar vriendinnen en andere klasgenoten zagen er geweldig uit. Wat ik hoorde, hebben ze allemaal een geweldig leuk feest gehad. Nu kunnen ze even een weekje rustig aan doen en vervolgens moeten ze aan de slag, leren voor de examens. Allemaal veel succes!

Thank you all for your kind comments on the blog post about the schoolprom of DD1. She looked very nice indeed (a proud mother speaking here).  Her friends and classmates looked great also. What I heard, they all had a great fun party. Now they have a week to take it easy and then they  have to work, learning for the exams. Good luck to you all!

Afgelopen zaterdag ben ik, met nog 3 leden van ons quiltgroepje de Quiltbengels, naar de OEQC in Veldhoven geweest. Wat was er veel moois te zien. De foto hierboven is een collage van de quilts uit Hongarije.

Last Saturday I went to the Open European Quilt Championship in Veldhoven. A lot of beautiful quilts were to be seen. The photo above is a collage of the quilts from Hungary.

Ik heb niet alles even goed kunnen bekijken, het was gewoon te veel voor 1 dag. Het kwam natuurlijk ook doordat ik werd afgeleid door de winkelstands. Ik had me voorgenomen niet zo veel te kopen, want er ligt al zoveel te doen. Maar al die verleidingen zijn voor een quiltster echt niet te weerstaan. Die slimme winkeliers weten dat natuurlijk ook....  Volgend jaar ga ik zeker weer!

 

I could not  look good at all the quilts, it was just too much for one day. It was also because  I was distracted by the shops. I had intended not so much to buy because I already have so much to do. But a quilter can really not resist all these temptations. These smart retailers know that of course .... Next year I will go again,  for sure!

 Ik heb trouwens ook nog eventjes gequilt met de APQS Millenium quiltmachine. Nee nee, die heb ik niet gekocht. Voor dat geld kun je een auto kopen... Maar het was geweldig om even te doen!

By the way, I also briefly quilted with a APQS Millenium quiltingmachine. No, I did not by one. For that money you can buy a car.. But it felt great to do!!

Top bijna af!

Zoals ik al vertelde, ben ik vorige week naar de Algemene Tentoonstelling in Alkmaar geweest. Ik was die dag in het gezellige gezelschap van quiltvriendinnen de Quiltbengels. Helaas moest 1 van ons door ziekte thuis blijven. Om 8 uur zaten we al in de trein zodat we al voor openingstijd in Alkmaar waren. We hadden dus nog even tijd om eerst koffie te drinken. We hebben er ook een heerlijk stuk appeltaart bij genomen!

As told, I've been to the exibition of the Dutch Quiltersguild in Alkmaar. I went there with quiltfriends "de Quiltbengels". Unfortunately one of us had to stay home because she was ill.  We took off early so we arrived in Alkmaar just before openinghours. We had plenty of time to drink a cup of coffee and we also treated ourselves to a delicious piece of applepie!



Het was weer een mooie tentoonstelling en gelukkig de moeite waard om zo'n eind voor te reizen. Wat wel op viel was dat we al redelijk snel alles gezien hadden. Om half 3 waren we wel klaar, andere jaren wilden we rond sluitingstijd eigenlijk nog niet weg! Hierdoor hadden we nog wel tijd om even bij de budgetboekhandel om de hoek tussen de giga-hoeveelheid quiltboeken te neuzen.  En natuurlijk kon ik het weer niet laten. Dit zijn mijn nieuwe aankopen. Vooral met het boek From the Cover van Quilters Newsletter Magazine ben ik erg in m'n nopjes. Er staan hele mooie quilts in en het is ook erg leuk te lezen hoe dit tijdschrift is ontstaan.

The exibition was worth it to travel so long. Although I was surprised that I had seen it all 'quickly'. At half past 2 we were ready to leave, while other years we didn't quite want to leave at closing time. Because of this, we were able to go to a budgetbookstore nearby...and yes, I did it again. I bought 2 books. I'm very pleased with the book 'From the Cover' of Quilters Newsletter Magazine. It's fun to read how this magazine was created and the quiltpatterns are very beautiful.

De laatste dagen ben ik druk bezig geweest met het maken van de opvulblokken van de Wishquilt en tadaaa....  de top is nu bijna af. Alleen de randen nog!

The last days I've been busy to make the fillerstrips of the Wishquilt and tadaa..... the top is almost ready now.I only have to sew the borders to it, then I can almost start quilting.
