Roshan, the Immortal is a powerful neutral creep boss who can be found within dedicated lairs within the center river. Roshan's strength grows as time passes, continuously growing stronger throughout the match. As his name implies, he is immortal; When killed, he respawns after a while.
The team that kills Roshan is generously rewarded with gold and experience, as well as several powerful items that cannot be acquired in any other way. As such, Roshan is highly contested, and taking him down requires team coordination.

Behavior
[edit]Main Article: Neutral creep behavior
- Roshan behaves similarly to other neutral creeps, not taking any action until provoked.
- Roshan has a reduced aggro range of 140, compared to the 240 of other neutral creeps.
- However, he uses the same aggro range of 1800 when damaged or when targeted by a spell.
- Unlike other units, Roshan prioritizes attacking
ward-type units.
- If there is no other unit within his current attack range, he will prioritize attacking wards, instead of other units that attack it.
- The player can prevent this by standing between Roshan and the wards, tanking his attacks.
Roshan Pit
[edit]Roshan's location on the minimap
Roshan's pit on
Radiant's side.
Roshan's pit on
Dire's side.
- Roshan has two pits on the map, both located with in the river.
- One pit is located at the south-east end of the river, on
Radiant's side.
- The other is located at the north-west end of the river, on
Dire's side.
- The entries of both pits face towards the middle lane.
- The pits's walls are U-shaped and have a length of about 1250 and a width of about 1050.
- The pathable area inside the pits have a length of about 750 and a width of about 550.
- Roshan initially spawns in the
Radiant pit an stays there up until game time 15:00.
- After that, Roshan moves between the pits whenever the daytime changes naturally.
Limitations inside the pits
[edit]- The inside area of the pits are marked with skulls on poles on Radiant's side, and lit torches on Dire's side.
- Units cannot attack Roshan unless they are within either pit.
- This limit only applies to attacks. Abilities can be cast on him from anywhere.
- Roshan himself does not have to be in a pit to be attacked, only the attacks do.
- Roshan does not have to be in his pits to attack anyone.
Vision
- The entry of both pits are lined with vision blockers, which completely block ground vision.
- This means units and spells with ground vision from outside the pit cannot reveal the inside of the pit, and vice versa.
- The vision blocker only affects ground vision. Flying vision is not affected.
- Observer Wards and Sentry Wards cannot be placed inside the pits.
- However, True Sight from outside the pit still affects the inside of the pit if it is within the True Sight radius.
- Couriers and Psionic Traps have no vision while inside the pit.
- Other abilities:
- Iron Branches cannot be planted inside the pits.
- Roshan's Banner cannot be placed inside the pits.
- Fiend's Gate cannot be cast inside the pits either.
- Mischief transforms the caster into Aegis, Cheese, or Refresher Shard, based on how often Roshan respawned.
Roshan's death
[edit]- Roshan's death is announced to both teams with a message, as well as a ▶️ stinger.
Respawning
[edit]- Roshan respawns within 8 – 11 minutes after being slain (4 – 5.5 minutes in Turbo Mode).
- The respawn time is uncertain, and is not revealed to the players.
- Spectators see the exact respawn time after the initial 8 minutes pass.
- Templar Assassin's innate ability, Third Eye reveals the respawn time to her team as well.
- Unlike other neutral creeps, Roshan's respawn cannot be prevented in any way.
- The respawn location is based on the daytime, respawning in the Dire pit during the day, and the Radiant pit during the night.
- Roshan's current status is visible within the HUD, through a display next to the minimap.
- When alive, the icon is green. Pointing the mouse on it opens a tooltip that reveals Roshan's current pit location.
- When slain, the icon turns red and a 480-second timer (240 seconds in Turbo Mode).
- While this timer is running, Roshan is definitely dead.
- Once this timer finishes, the icon turns yellow and a 180-second timer (90 seconds in Turbo Mode).
- Roshan may already be alive while this timer is running.
- For spectators and for Templar Assassin's team, this timer shows the exact respawn time.
- Roshan is guaranteed to be alive when this timer expires.
- The second timer can be skipped under the following situations:
- Roshan already respawned, and the team gained vision over him, even if just briefly.
- The enemy triggers Roar of Retribution (only possible if they have slain him the last time).
- The enemy slays Roshan during the timer (turning it red again).
- Spectators also see a clock within both pits that show his respawn time, similar to the HUD timer.
Kill Rewards
[edit]- Killing Roshan grants the killing player 200 – 290
unreliable gold.
- Additionally, the entire team gains 135
unreliable gold, including the killing player.
- This results in 335 – 425
gold for the killing player.
- Roshan also provides 400 + 20
experience nearby heroes of the killing team.
- Unlike other neutral creeps, Roshan's experience bounty is only granted to the killing team.
- Additionally, the entire team gains 135

Spell interactions
[edit]Roshan is an ancient creep, so that all ancient creep interactions apply, unless stated otherwise here. He also has 100% resistance to forced movement so that spells cannot move him at all. Roshan has no mana either, making him automatically immune to anything that works with mana, or null the effects of spells which are based on mana (e.g. Mana Void only stuns him). Furthermore, several spells have a unique behavior towards Roshan, treating him differently than any other unit.
Not affecting Roshan
[edit]These spells cannot affect Roshan, regardless of the ancient unit tag he has (meaning, even if he was not an ancient creep, these spells still would not affect him).

Unique interactions
[edit]These interactions are unique to Roshan
- Although affecting him, Roshan's health gets periodically set to his default health+ the time-based bonus he gains, overriding the effects of this aura.
- Does not heal upon killing Roshan.
- Uses the hero duration on Roshan, rather than the creep duration.
- The bounces cannot slow or damage Roshan. Only the initial cast damage and slow.
- Roshan turns into a giant version of the critter he gets hexed into.
- Roshan turns into a giant version of the critter he gets hexed into.
- Roshan turns into a giant version of the critter he gets hexed into.
- Lasts shorter on Roshan than on any other unit.
- Uses the hero stun duration, but the creep damage against Roshan.
Forced movement interactions
[edit]Forced movement and teleport spells react differently to forced movement immunity. All not-listed forced movement or teleport spells cannot affect Roshan due to his status.
The following spells completely apply all their effects except for the movement itself. This includes the disable coming along with the movement.
Chaos Knight – Reality Rift
Enigma – Black Hole
Force Staff – Force
Hurricane Pike – Hurricane Thrust
Invoker – Deafening Blast
Kunkka – Torrent
Lion – Earth Spike1
Magnus – Reverse Polarity
Morphling – Adaptive Strike (Strength)
Nyx Assassin – Impale1
Rubick – Telekinesis2
Sand King – Burrowstrike1
Storm Spirit – Electric Vortex
Tidehunter – Ravage1
Tusk – Walrus Kick
Tusk – Walrus PUNCH!
1 The damage is applied instantly, since it is queued to happen after the movement, which gets fully skipped.
2 Roshan gets stunned, instead of getting lifted. The AoE stun is applied instantly, since it is queued to happen after the lift, which gets fully skipped.
The following spells apply all effects as well, except for the disable along with the movement, so that they do not even interrupt Roshan.
- The lasso itself is immediately removed, so that Roshan is not even interrupted. Batrider is disabled for the full duration. When upgraded, although the damage modifier is applied for the full duration, it deals no damage when the lasso modifier is missing.
- As a secondary target, Roshan takes damage and is slowed. His facing direction is changed as well, but he is not interrupted at all.
- Since the damage is queued to happen after the lift, it is applied immediately.
- Since the damage is queued to happen after the lift, it is applied immediately.
- The bash is immediately removed, so that Roshan is not even interrupted. The damage is applied and Spirit Breaker receives the self-buff.
- Since Cyclone only lifts and disables, it effectively does nothing against Roshan.
Roshan damage interactions
[edit]These spells react on damage dealt by Roshan, getting either disabled, interrupted or reduced.
- 1 Soul Assumption counts damage dealt by Roshan to heroes.
