about

British-Congolese singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Liz Ikamba proudly announces the release of the Benyayer Remix of her critically acclaimed single Ba Yeba. Originally featured on her debut EP MAMA (May 2023), the track earned widespread praise and radio play, including on BBC 6 Music, for its emotive blend of soul, Afrobeat, and global sounds.

Now, electronic music producer Matt Benyayer brings new life to the song with a vibrant, club-ready reimagining. Available in both an extended version and a radio edit, the remix infuses Ba Yeba with energetic Afrohouse textures while preserving the emotional heart of the original. The result is a compelling fusion of soulful vocals and kinetic rhythms—bridging cultures and continents through sound.

“When I first heard the original, I was drawn to its emotional depth and soft dynamic range,” says Benyayer. “I wanted to explore punchier, faster rhythms that still honoured Liz’s message. It’s rare to work with material this strong—it was a pleasure.”

Rooted in Liz Ikamba’s Congolese heritage, Ba Yeba is a deeply personal call to friends and family scattered across the globe. “It’s a reminder that you are always welcome here,” she says. Sung in both English and Lingala, the lyrics speak directly to the bonds of kinship and belonging: ‘Mama a ngai, mwana na ngai, ya ya na ngai, leki na ngai’ (my mother, child, sibling), and ‘Ba yeba, ba yebana’ (they know, may they know).

Originally written on a loop pedal and shaped through funk, hip hop, and traditional African rhythms, Ba Yeba evolved from its beatbox-heavy, groove-laden roots into a rich Afrohouse anthem. “This kind of fusion feels like a natural extension of my musical and cultural identity,” Liz says. “It keeps the sound fresh, alive, and meaningful.”

A mesmeric and progressive dance remix echoing the likes of Black Coffee and Shimza, Ba Yeba is more than just a track—it’s a message of unity, heritage, and home.

Lyrics:
Mama na ngai, mwana na ngai
Yaya na ngai, leki na ngai
Mama na ngai, mwana na ngai
Yaya na ngai, leki na ngai

(My mother, my child
Older sibling, younger sibling
My mother, my child
Older sibling, younger sibling)

When I don’t see your face anymore
I don’t know if I can continue on
But then I’m reminded that the sunshine
It continues on, it continues on

And if at times I’m feeling lost
And wondering where is it you’ve gone
Remembering your smile reminds me somehow
To continue on, continue on
