Disney Reveals “Percy Jackson” Teaser and Season 2 Premiere Date at San Diego Comic-Con
The cast and creative team behind the Disney+ series made a splash at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, revealing an action-packed teaser and announcing a December 10 return date for the highly anticipated Season 2. Adapting Rick Riordan's "Sea of Monsters," the new season promises intense maritime sequences, epic battles, chariot races, and new characters, including Percy’s cyclops half-brother, Tyson.
Executive producers Jon Steinberg and Dan Shotz emphasized the differences fans will see in Season 2. Steinberg (who also serves as showrunner) noted that unlike Season 1's ambiguity between reality and magic, the second season fully embraces its fantastical elements, as Percy embarks on a quest to find the Golden Fleece to save Camp Half-Blood. Shotz described the new season as "supersized," as the production utilized more practical sets over volume stage work, including scenes on a 175-foot ship built for the production.
The young cast was on hand to talk about their characters, with Walker Scobell noting how aging in real life alongside Percy has deepened his connection to the character. Newcomer Daniel Diemer, who plays Percy’s half-brother Tyson, talked about his love for the franchise and how excited he was to work with Scobell. The two quickly bonded on set, and shared with the crowd how they recreated the iconic scene of Jack and Rose on the bow of the Titanic.
In addition to the teaser, the panel concluded with a surprise video announcement from author Rick Riordan regarding the casting of Nico and Bianca Di Angelo for Season 3. Levi Chrisopulos will play Nico, while Olive Abercrombie ("The Haunting of Hill House," "Outer Range") will play older sister Bianca.
