How is it possible that this movie has been completely overlooked by AMPAS for the Oscars ? Excruciatingly brilliant.... devastating story of a parent searching for answers for a wards evil deeds ... Tilda Swinton deserved a nod....

Dont understand why this movie is so very much appreciated...maybe because the plot was ahead of its times...Dustin Huffman surely looks like he has been made to wear some really ill fitting clothes...stifled and out of place...acting is forced and at times jumpy.... certainly not a movie to in IMDB top250.. but...sigh !!!

I am just discovering that i am big fan of movies made around fighters....I was a huge fan of Christian Bale prior to watching this but now he is definitely a favorite.. Watch it for Christian Bale, his portrayal of Dicky Ecklund where he has simply metamorphed into the character. I dont understand why he was nominated for Best Supporting Actor...this was his film through and through ...

    5. Something's Gotta Give

    6.7 (134K)
    20032h 8mPG-13
Was expecting a little bit more out of it...things were going good till Jack's and Diane's character dont 'break up' and she ends up an emotional mess...fail to understand why the script writer/director would have Diane's character bawling like a baby for days when she started off being this graceful strong formidable woman who was not frazzled by a lot of things including being doted upon by a guy half her characters age... Jack Nicholson as expected is brilliant in what is essentially a one dimensional character..Good one time watch.. also Diane Keaton cannot help but be gorgeous...its not hard to imagine why Woody Allen was so smitten with her...

    6. My Week with Marilyn

    6.9 (91K)
    20111h 39mR
As far as modern actresses go, Michelle Williams remains a favorite, but she has not been able to capture the essence of Marylin Monroe in this one...if it is possible Marylin's characterization in this movie is faulty....with all her vulnerabilities, eccentricities and insecurities Marylin was larger than life.. she had an aura which is missing in Michelle's performance, at best Michelle's character is just another movie star from yonder years.. not The Marilyn Monroe..Kenneth Branagh is good.. though i wouldn't know what to make of his performance since i have never watched any of Laurence Oliviers movies ..Physically however Kenneth Branagh is nowhere close to the chiseled Olivier...Dame Judi Dench shines ...but i think thats natural for her... she is beyond bad performances now... Eddie Redmayne is at best a prop... Ordinary !!

    7. Sophie's Choice

    7.5 (56K)
    19822h 30mR
Meryl Streep captivates you in every frame that she is, any movie that she is in... but she does much more than captivate you in this one. She involves you in a way you dont want to be involved cause then that leaves you with a heartache. She IS Sophie, every bit the troubled tormented holocaust survivor as she is supposed to be. Her performance is STELLAR for the lack of a better word. Watch her and you would want to hand over the statuette to her year after year for this one perf. She is deservedly the greatest actress of all time.. watch this and you will know.

  • Meryl Streep in The Iron Lady (2011)

    8. The Iron Lady

    6.4 (116K)
    20111h 45mPG-13
This one goes the J Edgar way completely... brilliant acting, good make up, the scenes alternating between present and flashback, and about the person behind the larger than life figure. It is now redundant to say how great an actor Meryl Streep is. Many have called her performance blatant impersonation of MTs mannerisms and body language but I am afraid the same people would have criticized her for not being able to capture the nuances of MT's persona. She is brilliant. She looks MT and is very believable both as the dynamic PM of GB and as the senile dotty woman bordering on Alzheimer. I would have however preferred a little more screen time to her tryst with politics. That is when she truly shines, she is truly the Iron Lady. Well deserved Oscar any which ways I would say. I have come to adore Jim Broadbent over the years and he does not disappoint either. All in all, a good film, but acting of the highest order.

    7.1 (137K)
    20111h 20mR
Kudos to the playwright on whose play this movie is based. I am one for drama and acting and the lack of picturesque locations and stunts and graphics does not disappoint me one bit... this movie thrived purely on the acting of two outstanding actresses, Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet. John Reilly and Christoph Waltz provide good support. The main hero however is the script. It beautifully brings out the war of egos that adults indulge in all the time. Adults who in their head are convinced that they are responsible citizens with a sense of community but are perpetually ready to bring out the petulant kid within them. Polanski never disappoints.

    11. Ekk Deewana Tha

    6.1 (3.5K)

Good one time watch..Prateik is good...only if Amy Jackson could have been dubbed by someone with a good voice and ..errrmmm...what am i forgetting....yeah ...ACT !!! Sorry Ms Jackson, you cant act to save your life !! You are even worse than Ms Fakhri...there i said it !!!
The chemistry between Prateik's character and that other guy is more believable than between him and Amy's character. However, Prateik should concentrate more on acting than dancing cause he looks hilarious when he dances...
    All in all its okay.

Feel good family movie...from the onset you know how the movie will unfold. The plot is nothing extraordinary, in fact a little cliche if i may say so. But watch it for Maggie Elizebeth Jones who plays Matt Damons seven year old daughter Rosie Mee. She is extraordinary. I kept looking forward to seeing her, her expressions are just spot on. She is adorable. I have never loved any child actor as much after Drew Barrymore from E.T. Yes, she is that adorable here.
I feel Scarlett Johansson is wasted, she doesnt have much to do in this one. Matt Damon is funny in long hair but carries off the role easily. All in all....feel good family movie.

It is totally understandable why people are so taken by this one...the small fraction of movie watching junta in India that still has some intelligence left craves for a good film. And this is a good film. By all measures this is a good film. The plot has some gaping holes but at least there is a plot. Acting is good. Vidya Balan shines as Bidya Bagchi :) Kolkatta is superb in the supporting role :D Everybody else is okay. The IB guy and the killer guy got on my nerves but maybe they were meant to :) I loved the kid Bishnu, he was genuine and endearing in his small bit .. what is more endearing is the heart that Sujoy Ghosh and the makers of this movie have shown in making a woman centric movie in the times of Dabangg and Singham and what not.... And an honest movie...not hackneyed escapist crap that Bollywood churns out everyday in the name of movies...Good work..

Very rapidly becoming a Fassbender fan .... He brings a certain rawness to the portrayal of his role... his character has no frame of reference ..as far as i recall there is not one credible portrayal of a sex addict... so Fassbender and McQueen were on ground zero when they started with this one..and Boy !! Have they pulled it off or have they pulled it off !!
Carey Mulligan shines ...sizzles in her portrayal of the oddball sibling... She reminded me so much of Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine....she has that same understated power about her performance in this one..
This ones for them who can see beyond nudity and sex, ones who will walk away with an experience...

Rating this movie after watching it for multiple times... Dhobi Ghaat has been compartmetalized into the quintessential art film category ..me thinks rightly so. cause this is a work of art. some movies are made cause a story needs to be told. this is one of those movies. the intersecting lives of five characters has been beautifully captured.. yes five... aamir's, prateik's, monica's, kriti's and Mumbai's. Mumbai is not just a city...mumbai is a living breathing pulsating visage of emotions in this movie...and hence Mumbai Diaries.. watch this if you want a fulfilling experience.

I had watched this earlier and what impressed me then was the story. What impressed me now was the restrained and non preachy stand that Soderberg has taken in telling this story. The smooth transition between the parallel storylines makes this for an engaging watch many times over.

What was the whole bloody point of this movie? I mean strange humanoid aliens notwithstanding, Ridley Scott riddles us with Tremor like monster and zombie spaceman.. and all this for what? Noomi Rapace cant stop whimpering, Charlize Theron keeps going 'My Ship, My Ship', Fassbender airbrushed to look more unreal than he is originally with his power of expression totally snatched by making him synthetic.. its like the makers came together with a plan of how not to make a sci-fi. CGIs dont impress us anymore specially since almost after every release you show us behind the scenes with actors prancing around in green/blue rooms. What would have made sense is adding some coherence to the behaviour of the astronauts/scientists on board Prometheus who didnt know better than bang their ship into an alien ship without no concrete proof on the intent of the alien ship. If this is how missions are planned in the future, God help us.

    26. Brokeback Mountain

    7.7 (407K)
    20052h 14mR
Brokeback Mountain has been predictably oversimplified as a gay cowboy movie. It is anything but. Its a love story, any love story that involves 'forbidden' love and the stigmas attached to it.... Love between two people who fall into the category of socially unacceptable pairing.

What makes this a very intriguing and involving watch is Heath Ledgers acting. The guy was a fuckin' legend. That he died so young is such a massive loss for us movie lovers.

There is one scene that almost threatens to rip ur heart out. When Ennis calls Laureen to find out about Jacks death, the muted but discernible emotions that pass through Ennis' face make you wonder how can one act thus. In having to play a reserved and introvert Ennis, Ledger speaks volumes via his body language.

Must watch...for its composed non-message oriented storytelling of two people caught in the web of their own emotions and the norms of the society they live in. Must watch for Heath Ledger.
