Found footage movies I have seen

10/10. One of the most well known and really the one that opened the floodgates, this micro-budget movie made hundreds of millions when it finally got wide release. No wonder, it slowly builds suspense and dread until finally the feeling of hopelessness permeates the screen, leaving us breathless with a shocking ending.

8.5/10. Two guys and 2 girls set out in an R/V to go on a camping trip. Once there they set up their tents and start drinking. Strange noises are heard at night and the next day while on a walk, they see a glimpse of a creature they can't identify. The next night things get worse, and by the morning one of them is missing. The last 40-45 minutes of this movie I won't reveal, but are a complete 180 from the beginning and are relentless, featuring awesome special effects including one of the best head shots I have seen. Incredibly, this movie was made for $12,000 but looks like the budget was $1,000,000. I love this one.

9/10. This Spanish FF is shot documentary style by a newscaster and her cameraman. There's not a boring scene to be had in this zombie style frightfest, and the ending is one of the scariest I have seen. A must see for any fan of the genre

9/10. A worthy successor to the first, this one expands on its origins and is just about as entertaining and original, while adding some new elements. Not to be missed.

8/10. This one follows two teenagers on vacation with their younger brother and parents, who bring cameras to their summer house in Spain. They decide to explore the supposedly haunted labyrinthine series of paths in the densely wooded area adjacent to their house. The last half hour of this one is horrific at times and very frightening.

7.5/10. Well made film set in the early 70s suggests that Apollo 17 was not the last mission to the moon, and that one more "secret" mission was made. This movie catches a lot of flak for having a silly plot, but I found it to be very claustrophobic, and it catches the 70s look and feel fairly well. It is very suspenseful and well made, even if the ending is a bit silly.

8/10. Graphically gory tale uses a serial killer's home movies as the basis of the film. well done and startling, depressing but fun. Great for those who like realistic, gritty serial killer type stuff.

7/10. A pair of sisters along with an Air Marshall, a stewardess and a few others survive a plane crash. Soon they find themselves being hunted by an unknown predator and are running for their lives. Lots of mystery and suspense with a surprise ending.

7/10. Romero's entry into the genre is of course another one his zombie sequels, which I found fairly entertaining but seems to be regarded as one of his weaker entries. Lots of fun sequences and lots of gore.

8/10. Extremely fun fantasy/horror about a group of students who join a real live troll hunter hunting giant trolls in the Norwegian boonies. Very inventive and exciting, highly recommended.

7/10. Creepy and effective thriller about a couple on vacation with their friend. One of them finds that his camera can predict who is going to die, with horrific results.

8/10. Everyone knows this one. I found it genuinely scary, if not overly so. Original for it's time.

6/10. Roughly follows the same timeline as the first one, only from the sister's perspective. A few creepy scenes are interspersed with a lot of boring filler, making this one not as good as it's predecessor.

7/10. Following Katie and her sister in the 80s as little girls, this is basically the origin story of their haunted lives. Fun movie with a genuinely creepy ending.

7.5/10. This one takes place a few years after the first two. Very cute girl has creepy little boy move in across the street. When his mother is rushed to the hospital, the girl and her family take the boy is, and she and her friend investigate the increasingly strange goings on. A lot of people hate this one, but I like it. I thought the ending was well thought out and freaky.

8/10. One of the first found footage movies has a professor traveling to South America to find a lost crew filming a documentary. He find their footage, which reveals their true fate. Graphic film is really only half found footage, but has some real live animal killing.

8.5/10. Aussie found footage has a news crew investigating the disappearance of the homeless in the abandoned subway beneath the streets of Sydney. Things go from bad to worse as they find themselves being chased by something unknown, and they start disappearing one by one. One of my faves.

4/10. Six Americans hire a Russian tour guide to take them to explore Chernobyl, site of the infamous nuclear meltdown in Russia. They soon discover they are not alone. I did not like this one at all, and found it dull and predictable, with a laughable ending.

8.5/10. Russian Soldiers in Germany during WW2 discover a lab where a German army is being created using dead soldiers combined with deadly weapons. This one is great fun, with lots of gore and awesome monsters.

8.5/10. J.J. Abrams produced blockbuster has a massive creature from the depths of the ocean tossing the head of the Statue of Liberty and knocking over skyscrapers. A group of partygoers attempt to cross the city to save a friend. Very well done monster movie with amazing effects. A sequel has been rumored for some time.

8/10. Horror anthology is all found footage consisting of 5 stories with a wraparound. I thought it was very well done, with the first and last being my favourite.

8.5/10. This sequel consists of 4 stories with a wraparound. Tapes 1 and 4 are pretty good, 2 is ok, but 3 is simply great. The best short film I have ever seen.

"Apartment 143" 7.5/10. A team of parapsychologists investigate the haunting of an apartment in an old building. This is a nice supernatural entry with some creepy and scary sequences.

7/10. PA clone adds nudity to the mix and doesn't take forever to get to the paranormal stuff. Fun rip-off.

7.5. A group of friends experimenting with a (yep you guessed it) Ouija Board unwittingly release a presence that follows them around, haunting them relentlessly. I thought this had a lot of scary sequences but kind of fell apart towards the end. Definitely worth a watch, though.
