Barry Fitzgerald loses his ward, the wealthy California Tatlocks' insane grandson. After the grandparents die just hours apart on the same night, young grandson Skyler and his guardian are summoned to the will-reading. Believing that Skylar is dead, Fitzgerald contacts movie stunt man John Lund, who looks strikingly like Skylar. Lund agrees to go along with it, believing that they will just hear the will read and then leave. First catch: All the Tatlock millions are left to Skylar; second catch: Lund falls in love with Skylar's sister Nan.
