John Forbes
- Mona Stevens: You're funny.
- John Forbes: How?
- Mona Stevens: You're not at all like the man who walked in here yesterday.
- John Forbes: Well, from the way you described the man who walked in here yesterday, I'd say anything was an improvement.
- Mona Stevens: Maybe that's what I meant.
- Tommy Forbes: What did you do in the war?
- John Forbes: Anything I was told.
- Tommy Forbes: I mean, where were you?
- John Forbes: Well, most of the time I was stationed in, uh.. Denver, Colorado.
- Tommy Forbes: [clearly disappointed] "Denver Colorado"?
- Sue Forbes: What's the matter with that? The Japs never got to Denver as long as your father was there.
- John Forbes: Thanks, dear.
- Sue Forbes: Any time.
- Tommy Forbes: Daddy, what makes a dream?
- John Forbes: Well, the mind, mostly. The mind is like a very wonderful camera. You know how a camera works?
- Tommy Forbes: Sure. It takes pictures.
- John Forbes: Well, that's right. That's the way the mind works. Evidently, from the day we're born, the mind takes pictures and stores them away. Now and then one of those pictures comes loose in our sleep, and that becomes a dream. So, the trick is, take only good pictures, and have only good dreams.
- Mona Stevens: You'd have a hard time proving that any of those gifts were bought with stolen money.
- John Forbes: We'd have a hard time, but we'd do it.
