A fun goofy movie I would love to see again!

I first saw this movie in New York while on a job interview trip in 1968. I have not seen hide nor hair of this movie since. I do, however, remember what a funny, slapstick romp it was. I realize it was a "B" movie, and likely was shot on a budget. But no expense was spared to maximize the comedy content. The scene of those two knuckleheads in the basement with the sparking electric drill was just great. Very enjoyable, I would love to see it again. Alas, my local television stations never had a print of it to run, and I am sure the networks wouldn't waste airtime on it today. I wonder why it has not been released on videotape? Somebody is sitting on a great early '50's comedy. If you are a Mickey Rooney fan, don't miss a chance to see this one. It is wonderful.

Elaine Stewart is 110° in the shade.

Elaine Stewart is 110° in the shade.

Mickey Rooney is always trying to find ways to get rich quick. Despite various failures, he never gives up. At some point he goes a little too far with his schemes and gets into trouble.

Mickey Rooney's character is interested in Elaine Stewart (as would any normal male be) and the comedy continues.

Part of the plot centers around gasoline pricing wars. Something that I experienced personally in the early 1970s. There's some very interesting scenes featuring Elaine Stewart on the beach in her bathing suit. The DVD that I got from Warner Brothers allowed me to rewatch that scene about 10 times.

This is a light movie with good entertainment and excellent. I candy for the men.

Mickey Rooney at his comic best!

My friend and I must have seen this movie at least 5 times back in 53, it just struck us as hilarious. Mickey was at his best as the cocky optimist "Geechy" with his side kick Eddie Bracken as Clopp. Cheevers & Clopp open a gas station and are doing fine but competition opens up across the street, enter Elaine Stewart. A major Gas Company's gas line is under Cheevers and Clopp's station. So they decide to siphon gas from this source to battle the "gas war". This was larceny but not enough to to have a major impact on anyone but their competition. The laughs hardly ever stop as they romp through success and major failures. Rooney and Bracken play off of one another masterfully. Its a fun movie to watch!

Buying gas at the Service Station in the 50`s

We were just a teen ager when we first saw this movie in the 50`s. It was very comical as well as having some suspense elements. The plot of the movie was a reality that could happen.Mickey Rooney and Eddie Bracken did a super portrayal as post world army buddies that got into a competitive business pumping gas. This movie was filmed in an era whereas we had first started driving a car and really impressed us.As I recall the entire cast did a great job.We haven`t seen the movie in years and sure would like to see it again. Good wholesome entertainment. I appreciate your web site.

    Cute Mickey Rooney Film!

Anyone who is a fan of mickey rooney will love this film. He is great in it! It's one of his funnist 1950's roles. In my opinion Mickey Rooney should have been #1 in the 50's too. The man was sizzeling with talent. He truly is one of the best actors that has ever lived, if not the best. This movie is great! The story is slight, but the acting of Mickey Rooney is worth a watch. Eddie Bracken is not the greatest actor and Mickey Rooney far outshines him. Mickey Rooney's love interest is typical of a girl he would have loved in real life. Tall and pretty! I would highly recommend this film to Rooney fans and to fans of cute, clean comedies of the 1950s! Enjoy!
