      Good Movie Altogether

House No 44 Was Directed By M.K Burman & Produced By Dev Anand's Navketan Films...Story Is Good ...Written By Vishwamittar Adil...Screenplay Would Have Been Better...

Story Revolves Around A Thief Ashok Who Starts Working For Sunder A Notorious Gangster ...His Journey From A Thief To A Normal Person...How Love Changes Him...

Dev Anand As Ashok Gives A Promising Performance ...Kalpana Karthik Is Very Beautiful ...She Is Too Good In The Movie...K N Singh The Villain Is Fine.....Kumkum Is OK...

Music Was Composed By Navketan's Music Director S.D.Burman...It Had Classic Songs Like "Teri Duniya Mein Jeene Se" By Hemant Kumar, "Chup Hai Dharti Chup Hai Chand Sitare" Again by Hemant Kumar ...

Overall A Good Movie...Script Should Have Been Better ...Same With Screenplay...Good Movie...Must Watch For A Dev Anand Fan....

      A weak thriller

Dev Anand plays a vagabond who falls into the trappings of crime and then tries to mend his ways.

The story however is not consistent in what it tries to convey. From probing into the moral compass of the main character of pointing a finger at society, the script wants to do many things but barely does it at a surface level and fails in it. Not to mention that there the storyline often prods at a slow pace.

The female actor (Kalpana Kartik) 's character is just stacked on top for the sake of it and does not seem well integrated into the story. Since it's a musical, it's loaded with songs but none of them memorable (ironical since Dev Anand would have many films around this time with great soundtracks, CID for one).

In some ways, the identity of the main character and the criminal underworld harks back to Raj Kapoor's Awaara but unlike the stellar production, script and soundtrack of that film, this one falters at all fronts. Even Dev Anand takes some time to meld into his role and the initial scenes with him are far from perfect.
