Quotes7

  • Ginger Edwards: What's it like being an officer?
  • John Summers: Bloody awful!
  • [Wolf Merton can be seen speaking with John Summers while the former is shaving]
  • Wolf Merton: Oh, and Summers, one other thing.
  • John Summers: Yes sir?
  • Wolf Merton: [smiles] I'm not allowed to make mistakes.
  • [Summers returns the smile before he turns and exits]
  • [Wolf Merton can be seen speaking with John Summers as the latter works at a produce stand]
  • John Summers: That's about all there is to it. A bit later on after I'd settled down, I was glad you didn't take me at my word that morning. But I knew I've got to steer clear of Ginger, for both our sakes.
  • [Merton thinks about what he's just heard when he notices something on a nearby box]
  • Wolf Merton: Someone been hurt?
  • John Summers: Yes, one of the chaps cut himself this morning.
  • [Wolf Merton is seen speaking with John Summers at a produce stand]
  • Wolf Merton: Where's Edwards? Where is he?
  • John Summers: I told you, I don't know.
  • Wolf Merton: What are you two up to? I'll find him if I have to move every crate in this place.
  • [unbeknownst to Merton, Ginger Edwards has been hiding in a basement nearby. He's heard everything that was spoken between Merton and Summers. With this, Edwards quickly begins looking for an exit]
  • [Wolf Merton can be seen in a produce market as he attempts to find Ginger Edwards. After a few seconds of searching, he walks over to John Summers]
  • Wolf Merton: Can't you see I'm trying to help him, too?
  • John Summers: Is that why you phoned the police last night-?
  • [Summers catches himself as Merton quickly turns to look at him]
  • Wolf Merton: So you have seen him. Does Ginger really believe that?
  • [Summers remains silent]
  • Wolf Merton: Come on, now. Where is he?
  • John Summers: [dejectedly] Down here.
  • [Summers walks over the entrance to the basement level of the market. He descends down below while Merton follows]
  • [Wolf Merton can be seen sitting at a counter. As he's looking around, he notices John Summers]
  • Wolf Merton: Hello, Summers.
  • [Summers turns to notice Merton. Upon recognizing him, Summers stands at attention]
  • John Summers: Evening, sir.
  • [Merton turns fully around to face Summers]
  • Wolf Merton: What about a drink?
  • John Summers: Thank you, sir.
  • Wolf Merton: Whiskey?
  • John Summers: Please, sir.
  • [Wolf Merton can be seen preparing drinks for him and John Summers]
  • John Summers: Thank you for all you've done for me, sir.
  • Wolf Merton: Nonsense. You've earned your comission.
  • [Merton sets a drink on the counter]
  • Wolf Merton: There's no question of thanks about it.
  • [Summers picks up his drink]
  • John Summers: Thank you, sir.
  • Wolf Merton: [holds up his drink] Anyway, here's to you. Congratulations, and welcome to the mess.
  • John Summers: [holds up his drink] Thank you, sir.
