- Clay Gipson: How's that, Wade? Hit him every time!
- Sheriff Wade Addams: Well, your marksmanship: not bad; but your speed, not so good. That's because you're wastin' a lot of time slappin' leather. You're wearin' your gunbelt a little too high. That's it, lower it a little. You gotta have your wrist just so it's about touchin' your gun handle. That's about right. Now watch... you watch his eyes, never his hands.
- [Addams puts a hole right between the eyes of Tris Hatten's wanted poster]
- Sheriff Wade Addams: A wasted shot cost many a fellow his life. Now, speed's important, but you gotta hit what you're aimin' at, too, you know.
- Clay Gipson: Do you really think Tris Hatten's dead?
- Sheriff Wade Addams: He's supposed to be, according to the legend. Of course, that legend's as phony as a brass good piece. It's the worst kind of killer that would shoot a man in the back just as soon as look at him. I kinda hope he's dead.
- Millie Street: I wish I were a man for just an hour. I wish I were a man!
- [Millie throws her drink in Wade's face]
- Sheriff Wade Addams: I wish you were, too, Millie.
- [Hatten learns that a 12-year-old boy was responsible for his arrest]
- Tris Hatten: You don't think I look like the type that would go around shootin' little kids, do you?
- Sheriff Wade Addams: You're the type that would shoot butterflies if you thought you could hit 'em.
- Sheriff Wade Addams: There's a few punchin' jobs open.
- George Barlow: We don't like nursemaidin' cows. Hard on the hands.
- Earl Barlow: Never did like rope burns.
- Sheriff Wade Addams: Well, on the hands they're not so bad, but on *other* parts of the body, they'd be kind of irritating.
- Carl Barlow: We're three to your one, Sheriff.
- [Wade guns down two of the Barlow boys]
- Sheriff Wade Addams: Odds change fast, Barlow.
- Sheriff Wade Addams: Did he shoot Clay?
- Millie Street: That's right. Just like Hatten's going to shoot you. You're not going up against a guy like poor little Shorty.
- Sheriff Wade Addams: Millie, be out of town by the time I get back.
- Millie Street: You ain't comin' back!
