    Focus on smaller offenses

The focus of the earlier episodes of "Stahlnetz" is on smaller crimes although it started out with murder and occasionally a murder case is featured. But the light stuff is more common, sometimes the crime committed seems too small for putting so much effort into solving it that it becomes a subject in itself. Why do you spend so much time searching for a guy how just knocked down an old merchant but did not steal anything, the police detective is frequently asked in "Die blaue Mütze". One reason this rather minor offense has been chosen might have been to give the people the impression that the police is trustworthy and diligent. The fact that police detectives did not get much paid is also frequently mentioned.

One thing that I noticed in almost all episodes is the fact that people who are investigated tend to answer with "Jawohl" instead of a simple "Ja". "Jawohl" was the way people are trained at the military to answer in the affirmative. The Nazis loved this. Altough they tried to keep the war and National Socialism out of the stories as best they could, this little speech habit gives something away. The war ended just about 15 years ago and the drill is still in them.
