    Sam vs. Ralph

A Sheep in the Deep was very entertaining. Perhaps a little too short and fast, but it was still hugely enjoyable. A vast majority of the fun is in the sight gags and they are hilarious on the whole, while the animation is very lively and the music fun. The story tells of a sheepdog who means to guard the sheep from a wolf, and is well constructed and effective. Sam is lots of fun, but Ralph I feel is a stronger character. Both characters are brilliantly voiced by Mel Blanc, a voice actor who very, very rarely gave a bad vocal performance. Overall, very entertaining and definitely worth watching. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Another good Ralph & Sam cartoon

The last of the Ralph Wolf & Sam Sheepdog shorts directed by Chuck Jones. The animation is that sketchy style Jones preferred in later years but it's not bad. The colors are lovely and the characters are drawn well. Good music from Milt Franklyn. Nice voice work from the great Mel Blanc. Make no mistake, though, there isn't much talking in this one. It's one sight gag after another as Ralph Wolf fails to steal the sheep. Predictable, perhaps, but also very funny. My favorite gag was probably the one where Ralph uses a jack to lift the ground Sam is sitting on. Where Jones came up with these ideas I'll never know but it's our good fortune he did. This is not the best of the Ralph & Sam series but it is an entertaining one.

    Another day, another dollar.

This short is mostly sight gags. Poor Ralph! The things a wolf has to go through to earn a living and possibly to get a square meal on occasion. This one most obviously and conspicuously indicates the basic premise-that both wolf and sheepdog are just a job, you do your shift and go home. It's a living, I guess. Quite funny and well worth watching. Recommended.
