    tortilla chip without the spice

Agnes, a young interior designer, arrives on a small Spanish island to renovate the house of a certain Zaylor located in Enseralda, an isolated village. On the way, she meets Daniel, a man who provokes the hostility of the people around him. He may( or may not) have murdered his wife whose body was never found .

A really cosmopolitan cast! Around the principal (French Annie Girardot) , an English (Richard Johnson) ,an Italian (Alida Valli)and ,just the same ,a Spanish (Francisco Rabal ) ,all of them first-class thespians. But as you know, too many cooks spoil the broth .And François Villiers 's forte is not the thriller ("Constance aux enfers" was a double rip -off of "les diaboliques" and "rear window") .His directing does not even take advantage of the splendid Spanish coast landscapes ,and it's not filmed in color at that !

Looking towards "Rebecca" this time, the film fails on all fronts :it is as though the director eventually realizes how dour it is and tries to enliven things with a male dancer who makes the ladies drool .

Annie Girardot tries her best but what can a great actress like her do with a screenplay which borrows from so many other thrillers and fails totally to convince ?

    Nice black and white images

A small budget movie of his time.

I liked the high contrast black and white images. Not a great movie but interesting. A young Annie Girardot who has here a more contained play. The other cast I don't know bit their play was correct regarding the sixties. Maybe a bit too dramatic. The setting on the island makes it a huit clos. And there is a superb Merc cabrio SL in it.
