    Spare change

Sitting on a park bench alone and homeless (awww...he can stay with me any day) the Pink Panther befriends a drunk man on his way back to his nagging wife. Luckily the drunkard has a fondness for Pink Panthers and offers Pinky a place to stay. As long as his wife doesn't find out. So you can imagine, every move they make is scrutinised by the wifey but the Pink Panther uses his cunning skills at disguise to get around her nosing. It's consistently funny, but not amazingly so. Still a great cartoon though.

I love the Pink Panther and the brilliant abstract style of the animation. He's the King of Cartoon Cool. No doubt.

A cocktail of crude animation and crap humour.

Pickled Pink is another garish, badly drawn, crudely animated Pink Panther short, in which the cool cat is invited to stay the night at the home of an alcoholic who tries not to disturb his battle-axe of a wife, who must be one of the most horrible cartoon characters ever, especially with Mel Blanc providing her voice. Obviously, keeping the panther hidden from his wife proves a challenge for the drunk, and both the man and the cat are thrown out of the house at the end, the woman mistaking the panther in a sleeping bag for a huge caterpillar!

I can't say I found any of this cartoon funny, and the horrible colour schemes are enough to bring on a migraine. 2/10.

More Pink Panther fun and coolness

The ending is rather lame I agree, but Pickled Pink is still entertaining. The animation is effective in its simplicity, it is colourful and also endearingly abstract. The music is still the jazzy and cool music we know and love, with a theme that is one of the most iconic in all animation. Pickled Pink may not be hilarious, but it is still funny and enough to put a smile on your face, likewise the story is not the most original but the efficient pacing helps to not make that matter too much. The characters are also fun. The drunk counterpoints well but is the least interesting and least funny of the three. The wife has some great lines and her delivery helps to give those lines the impact they ought to. Pinky steals the show though, seeing as he's the main character he ought to and he does so just by being effortlessly cool, cute and funny.

In conclusion, not one of Pinky's best but well worth the watch. 8/10 Bethany Cox

Another funny, dialogue Pink Panther cartoon

A lonely looking Pink Panther sitting on a park bench gets invited to the home of a random, nicely-dressed drunk. He let's the Pink Panther help himself to some food in the kitchen, but making the food gets the best of him, resulting in hilarious results. The man also let's the panther spend the night at his house, but to the disdain of his bossy wife, who vows to kick him out of the house if he brings another drunkard in. So, the man tries to hide his pink friend and keep him out of sight.

Plenty of laughs here, though the ending keeps you hanging a little. But, it's another good, entertaining cartoon.

Combining the panther with a drunkard is a winning combination and the dialogue isn't so overbearing as it was on the short before - what isn't cool is "her indoors" being the antagonist, fun but old fashioned!

    • Trivia
As the cartoon series progressed, speaking scenes would all but disappear from the action. Mel Blanc provides the voice of the amiable drunk (and his angry wife) here, and addresses Pinky as a pink panther, which he is.
    • Goofs
The drunk is so "far into the bag" that he cannot speak coherently when he instructs and otherwise talks to Pinky, yet he is able to speak perfectly clearly when he addresses his wife.
