    Um, it was okay...

I cannot say I am a Speedy Gonzales fan, but I watched Mexican Mousepiece because I am a huge fan of Daffy Duck, always have been. This cartoon is okay, but it is very unexceptional. Speedy is tolerable here, some dialogue is funny Daffy getting the best of it and there was a very amusing moment when Speedy tricks Daffy into thinking a box of fireworks is the box where he put Speedy's friends. Also, the ending is a nice touch and Mel Blanc is excellent. However, the story is routine and predictable, and the music has a tendency to become annoying. I know this isn't the first Speedy cartoon where I have complained about the animation, but it is really not great here, the backgrounds are lifeless and washed out and Daffy himself looks odd. While he did have some decent lines, which I guess is an improvement, Daffy deserved better, and I hate to say this but Sylvester has actually proved himself a worthier foil for Speedy. I just don't know, but Daffy is probably the sort of character who works well with either by himself or with a Looney Tunes character like Bugs. Overall, not awful, but I don't recommend it. 6/10 Bethany Cox

    • Trivia
CARE, which is spoofed in this short, was originally founded in 1945 as Cooperative for American Remittance to Europe and later became Cooperative for Assistance and Relief Everywhere. This worthy outfit has worked in over 100 countries and supported almost 1,350 poverty-fighting and humanitarian aid projects.
    • Goofs
In the beginning, the "CARE" box is shown having a side door and clearly having a bottom as the mice entered it. Later in the cartoon, the same "CARE" box is shown not having that door nor the bottom, as the mice became visible under the box which Daffy picked up and of course there was also the running feet underneath.
