    If only, if only....

the animation was better. Alas, while the characters are animated decently the backgrounds are incredibly lifeless and dull with washed out colourings. Then there is a routine story, uneven pacing, the whole cartoon is rather one-joke which is a disappointment(I know there are many other Looney Tunes cartoons like this but that had a joke that was entertaining and lasted well) and Speedy is underused while Daffy has performed much better before. However, the music is better than it was in Quacker Tracker, having some flair to it, the dialogue has some nice touches and Mel Blanc's vocals are stellar. Overall, not awful but with better animation it could have been better. MUCH better. 5/10 Bethany Cox

One of the better Speedy/Daffy pairings

One of the biggest problems with the Speedy versus Daffy cartoons is that they aren't really natural adversaries, so it's hard to sell Daffy as really a believable nemesis, unlike Sylvester (a natural pairing, obviously), so the cartoons aren't terribly logical, even for cartoons. Add to that the fact that Daffy seems exceptionally mean and nasty, even for him, in one or two. This one, however, is logical and effectively executed. Well worth watching. Recommended.

Poorly animated and based on one single joke

Speedy and his friends are organising a party and try to hide the fact from Daffy Duck. When Daffy comes along, they hide but he finds out anyway. Furious that they are not involving him Daffy plans to ruin their party by using a rain making machine, however the plan is not as easily executed as he hoped.

Another cartoon that opens with such basic animation that it is hard not to be put off even a little by how bland and empty the whole thing looks. This doesn't always mean that the cartoon will be of poor quality but unfortunately here it is part of a wider problem.

The opening set up scenes are dull and lifeless – the character of Speedy is so underused as to be pointless, they could easily have used any one-off character in his place, so little is he needed. The main body of the cartoon is around Daffy's fight to get his rain cloud to do what he wants but it is one joke stretched very thin with little invention to support it. The end of the cartoon is also lacking and is very obvious from the start.

The main failing of the short for me is the failure to really use Daffy as a character. He isn't really himself here – maybe it's the animation but I didn't get the sense of any depth to him, instead he is like a bland version of himself crossed with Wily E Coyote. This is a loss for me as I love his bitter character and enjoy him when it is brought out and used well. Sadly nothing was really done with it here.

Overall this is an one-joke cartoon which is not that funny, the poor quality animation shows the production standards for what they are – standards which sadly extend to most other factors of the cartoon.
