The Jungle Book (1967)

Connections

The Jungle Book

Edit

Edited from

    • The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad (1949)

chase scene with Baloo, Mowgli and King Louie is redrawn from this film
    • Goliath II (Short 1960)

Some of the animation here, particularly the elephant parade and the elephants crashing, would be reused in that movie
    • One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961)

Some of the animation sequences used for the wolf mother and pups appear to be reused from the Dalmatians, with new colors. The motions of the wolf pups leaning on the tree log, for example, compared to three of the dalmatians on the arm of the chair in Cruella Deville's mansion.
    • The Sword in the Stone (1963)

The animation of Wart being licked by dogs is repurposed for the scene of Mowgli being licked by wolves. Furthermore, Sebastian Cabot says "Hold it, Kay!/Hold it, Kaa!" in the same cadence.

Edited into

    • Robin Hood (1973)

In the early 70s, the Disney studio was undergoing a cost-cutting exercise with their film Robin Hood. To help save money, they recycled several elements from The Jungle Book, including using the design of Baloo for Little John and the dance sequence between Baloo and King Louie which was rotoscoped and used again for Little John and Lady Cluck's dance.
    • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)

Mowgli's walk through the jungle was reused as Christopher Robin walking in the forest with Pooh Bear.
    • "The Magical World of Disney" Disney's Greatest Villains (TV Episode 1977)

    • The Rescuers (1977)

The keyframes used when Penny is trying to run away were lifted from a scene where Mowgli also tries to run away.
    • Totally Minnie (TV Movie 1988)

This movie uses archive footage from the following film.

    • The Magic of Walt Disney World (Short 1972)

    • Robin Hood (1973)

Many similarities between Baloo and Little John: Both are bears, both are voiced by Phil Harris, and both even dance in much the same fashion. Sir Hiss resembles Kaa, and there are similar vultures in both movies.

References

    • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

The organ music that plays when Bagheera preaches over the assumed dead Baloo was reused from Snow White's funeral sequence.
    • Bambi (1942)

Bambi's mom appears briefly, being stalked (unsuccessfully) by Shere Khan.
    • Song of the South (1946)

When Baloo tickles King Louie, the ape laughs exactly like Brer Rabbit in the "Laughing Place" scene
    • Marty (1955)

The two vultures arguing about what to do that night; almost the same exact words as Marty and Angie
