  • Elvira: No doubt about it, it speaks of a place called the Devil's Crossroads near the Hermitage of Saint Anne. There was a reprobate monk there called Baptist Verdung, who celebrated covens and black masses, at the behest of Countess Wandesa Darvula de Nadasdy.
  • Waldemar Daninsky: I know where the Crossroads is, and the ruins of the Hermitage.
  • Genevieve Bennett: [She has removed the Silver Cross from the corpse's chest, but in the process she has injured her arm and drops of her blood have fallen on the skull.] Legend says that if the Silver Cross of Mayensa is torn from her chest, Wandesa would come back to life, and that the breath of her resurrection would be red.
  • Waldemar Daninsky: It's just a legend.
  • Waldemar Daninsky: [reading] When the full moon comes and coincides with Walpurgis Night, the cross made from the sacred metal of the chalice of Mayensa will pierce the hearts of those who suffer the curse of being werewolves. If this is done by the woman who loves the cursed man and risks her life for him, the light will overcome the darkness and the soul of the damned will regain peace forever.
  • Inspector Marcel: I am going to give you some advice: Be careful. The peasants in the area hate you, and are ready to do anything, even kill you. I would not be surprised if they came determined to kill you and hang you.
  • Waldemar Daninsky: They've already tried.
  • Waldemar Daninsky: The curse reached me in Tibet. There I became a werewolf. Afterwards, I managed to take refuge in a village on the Austrian border. Elizabeth helped me by chaining me to the wall every time the full moon came. But once I managed to escape, and I murdered some poor innocent people. The crimes were repeated. The villagers found me. They shot me with silver bullets. Since then, I have been forced to wander between life and death. Fear and hatred haunt me.
