Rouen, France, 1968: Danièle is an unconventional French teacher. Every morning she takes her pupil Gérard to school. He flirts with her and she reciprocates his affection. This brings the parents and the school authorities onto the scene.

A love story between a teacher, Danièle, 32 years, and one of her students Gérard, 17, during the heated atmosphere of May 68. Danièle is a fiery young woman, very involved politically. French teacher Danièle uses unconventional teaching methods to win the sympathy of her sixth form class. Pupils and teacher discuss things in bars, organize demonstrations and meet up at Danièle's house. Gérard, whom she brings to school by car every morning, flirts with her. The divorced teacher reciprocates his affection and starts a relationship with him despite the age difference. For his parents, who initially liked Danièle, the teacher becomes a red rag. Although Gérard repeatedly emphasizes that he loves Danièle, his parents do not give up the fight against the relationship. They send Gérard to another school and report Danièle, who is then arrested. After several court hearings, Danièle is released. In the meantime, Gérard is admitted to a psychiatric clinic.
