It's good, but not great
A very good film. Good story and good acting and directing.
But it's not the best Gangster film ever made.
That award goes to the Director's cut of Once Upon a Time in America. It's a film that has much more depth to it than does The Godfather.
The Godfather is an entertaining evening, but it doesn't move you. You don't really care about any of the characters---they are all just psychopaths with no depth to them. We hardly even known Vito Corleone's wife, for example.
Terrific story, but nothing with much depth. They are gangsters and nothing more. It's a move about 'business" but not about what life would have really been like for them. People die, ho hum. Do we really miss any of them as people? For your sake, I hope not.
