    Great Show

I agree w/ everyone here. Amazing television. Even the title sequence was amazing. I watched this with my folks when I was a kid. It set a pretty high bar for my expectations regarding documentary television. I'm willing to fork over a bunch of cash to be able to stream this.

    that's Hollywood

I remember this show very well....

One of my best memories of "That's Hollywood" is the mentioning of sci fi films, especially "The Empire Strikes Back (1980).

Tom Bosley clearly said: "The adventure and the success of 'Star Wars' continues with "The Empire Strikes Back", the 2nd in a series of 9 films George Lucas plans to produce thru 1995." My mouth dropped when he said that...I never forgot that. I was thrilled at age 12 in 1980 knowing that there were going to be more SW films.

    Thanks That's Hollywood

I agree that this was a wonderful, engaging series. Along with the PBS version of Siskel and Ebert (Sneak Previews), Arthur Knight's Art of Film book and the Dialing for Dollars Movie, this was the series that most drew me to the art and entertainment of film. It seems like almost every episode ended with the destruction of Vader's Death Star (this was a Fox produced show after all) but that's a small detriment.

I imagine the price of rights for the film clips may be holding up this show from returning to the air, but if the clips were all Fox films, I'm surprised this hasn't reappeared on the Fox Movie Channel.

I loved how the series chronicled the history of a genre or star, from birth to the present. Tom Bosley acquitted himself well and gave a folksy bent to the subject's history.

I'd love to see this series again.

By the way, I now work in the film business and the love of film this series inspired was certainly instrumental in my getting here.

For A long Time, I Watched It Every Week

As Jim said above,if this were put out on Video or DVD,I'd buy it too! I watched this show for about 3 or 4 years I think, starting in early 1977 and I may be wrong but I think it ended in '81 or '82. I was 8 when it started and if I'm right,I was 12 or more when it ended.

This gave me my earliest insights into a time before me,that I didn't even know existed. It was intriguing to learn all about the stars of "Hollywood's Golden Age" and then to discover (at that time) that a great deal of them were still living! When my family lived in California from 1977 to 1980,I wished we could have gone to Hollywood more often and found and met these folks.

"That's Hollywood" opened my eyes at a very impressionable age and the fact that it was narrated by Tom "Mr C." Bosley from Happy Days, kept me tuned in! If it turns up on video, all of you out there reading this, get it! Buy or rent 1985's "That's Dancing" film as well,it's a great movie like this was a great show (and still is!)

Popular Network Show for 7 Years

That's Hollywood was a popular TV show on the ABC network for seven years beginning in 1976, with it's final season produced for 1982. The show was an historical documentary program featuring film clips from major Hollywood motion pictures, creatively edited into a narrative accompanied by voice-over explaining the characters, story, and production information. Actor Tom Bosley was the host narrator, with some segments featuring additional guest narration by the actors, producers, directors, and other crafts persons in the film clips. Produced by Twentieth Century-Fox Television, the program was comprised primarily of film clips from motion pictures produced by the 20th Century-Fox studios, but also included the work of other production companies when demanded by important emphasis on the episode subject.

That's Hollywood was one of the first regularly produced programs to be prepared entirely on videotape. Episodes were edited using early electronic videotape editing technology unsophisticated by today's standards. Each episode was prepared by a Writer/Producer and Co-Producer/Editor team.
