Awful and unpleasant unfunny 1970s sitcom
Before he found fame as Derrick Trotter in the phenomenally popular '' Only fools and horses" which ran from 1981- 2003 David had been lumbering about in repertory theatres in the 1960s as well as notching up some guest appearances on low key drama and comedy of the era.
Many people considered he was a star waiting to happen all he needed was the right vehicle.
Lucky feller broadcast in 1975, tells the story of two brothers named Shorty and Randy played by the late Peter Armitage who would later go on to achieve fame as Kevin Webster's father in the popular soap ' Coronation street'. They're plumbers who live at home in south London with their mother. Randy is a womanizer whereas Shorty is inexperienced as far as women go.
The series charts the lives of the brothers at home until a ditzy young scrubber named Kathleen comes into their lives played by Cheryl hall and from then on out their lives begin to unravel in the most unusual ways.
This is one of the worst comedies I have ever seen, the premise is nasty and unpleasant the characters aren't like anyone I've ever encountered in my own lives unlike the upbeat show ' Only fools and horses which was lively and charming not to mention a lot funnier than this.
David Jason performs well in this series he's younger here as the show came out in 1975 but a talent is prevalent and Peter Armitage is very arrogant and selfish the mother as well Isn't all to credible either.
Overall: Lucky feller is an unpleasant hybrid as far as sitcoms go the characters and situations aren't the slightest bit funny although the actors give decent performances the show isn't very good.
Although a young David Jason aged 35 born in 1940 shows promise in one of his earliest starring roles.
In short awful avoid like the plague and watch Open all hours 1973- 1981 or Only fools and horses 1981- 2003 instead which are vastly superior.

Underrated but not forgotten
This was a shamefully underrated ITV comedy of 1976, written by Terence "There's a girl in my soup" Frisby and produced by Humphrey Barclay. Also set in south-east London, the basic set-up can be seen as a dry run for Only Fools and Horses, except with David Jason playing the "Rodders" part. There are two brothers: a sex god (Randolph Mepstead, played by Peter Armitage) and a shy nerd (Shorty Mepstead, played by Jason). The nerd is in love with a girl (Cheryl Hall); the girl is sexually infatuated with the sex god. Put like that it sounds a fairly standard romcom, but the quality of the writing was high and the comedy of social misunderstandings was highly inventive.
It was attacked by critics and only lasted one series, axed by the production company London Weekend Television. Years later it was reported in the press that LWT, presumably hoping to make some money out of the popularity of Del Boy Trotter, had approached David Jason to ask if it could be reshown. Alas, Jason turned them down. He apparently still felt aggrieved that LWT had not got behind such a superior project. But this is the kind of show that is ripe for revaluation.

- Trivia"Lucky Feller" is the second sitcom starring David Jason that didn't get picked up for a second season, the first being "The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs". It should be noted that both sitcoms got generally good reviews from the press at the time.
