September is heavily influenced by Autumn Sonata, a film by one of Woody Allen's favourite directors Ingmar Bergman. Plots have many similarities like, for example, a storyline of a daughter whose whole life was ruined by her selfish mother in both films. In the first scene of September Mia Farrow is dressed exactly like Liv Ullmann in the first scene of Autumn Sonata. Not to mention the title - September is the first month of Autumn.
