Stole Popov's Academy Award-nominated "Dae" depicts a group of Roma* celebrating St. George's Day. The documentary doesn't contain dialogue, just footage of the festivity. What I interpreted from it is that the Roma have kept trying to maintain their way of life, despite all the horror that they've suffered over the centuries (commonly labeled thieves, they were one of the Nazis' main targets).
The documentaries are often the most interesting Oscar nominees, not to mention the most important. This is just one example. It probably lingered in obscurity for years, but thanks to the wonders of the internet you can now find it online. As for Stole Popov, I hope to be able to see more of his work.
*The Roma often get called gypsies, but that's a derogatory name applied by people trying to demonize them.
