Detective Brandt
- Detective Brandt: Take a look. There's pieces of three or four bodies in there. Probably more buried around.
- Alice Perrin: Oh, God.
- Detective Brandt: I expect Gallier killed them first. Possibly as part of some ritual. Then, fed 'em to the leopard. We found some others over the years. Mostly prositutes, female runaways, half eaten, genitals torn out.
- Detective Brandt: Miss Perrin? Dr. Yates? You're with the zoo, right?
- Oliver Yates: Yeah
- Detective Brandt: Come with me. I want to show you something. At least we know now where the leopard came from. Follow me.
- [They go down into the basement]
- Alice Perrin: What's that smell?
- Oliver Yates: I don't know.
- Detective Brandt: Yeah, the dog picked up the scent real strong. You should've seen him. He went crazy.
- [He shows them a cage with dead bodies in various stages of decay]
- Detective Brandt: Take a good look. There's pieces of three or four bodies in there. Probably more buried around.
- Alice Perrin: Oh, god.
- Detective Brandt: I expect Gallier killed them first, possibly as part of some ritual, then fed 'em to the leopard. We found some others, too, over the years. Mostly prostitutes, female runaways--half-eaten, genitals torn out.
- Alice Perrin: But why?
- Detective Brandt: Listen, who knows? Gallier's been in and out of psycho wards since he was 12. He's a religious fanatic.
- Oliver Yates: Where could he possibly have found a cat like this? And how could he have handled it by himself?
- Detective Brandt: He was raised around them, at least until he was 10. His folks were carnival people--lion trainers--till they blew their brains out one night.
- Alice Perrin: What about Irema? Is she involved?
- Oliver Yates: What are you suggesting? Irena hadn't even met her brother until a week ago.
- Detective Brandt: We have no reason to suspect her. In fact, it looked as if he'd planned to kill her too. And if I was her, I'd find me another place to live.
- Oliver Yates: I'll take care of that.
- Oliver Yates: Detective?
- Detective Brandt: Looks like we got us another murder.
- Alice Perrin: The leopard?
- Detective Brandt: Yeah. The girl came back late last night with a man. Early 30s, brown hair. Our people put the actual time of the death at around 3:00.
- Alice Perrin: Who was she?
- Detective Brandt: Who knows? A tourist maybe. Now get this. He picked her up at a cemetery.
- Oliver Yates: Can we look?
- Detective Brandt: Hope you haven't had breakfast. Come on.
- Female: I was sleeping. I didn't hear anything.
- Detective Brandt: Are you sure? Hmm? What about the basement? I suppose you don't know anything about the basement either, hmm?
- Female: Basement? Oh, I don't go there.
