Fair crime drama, but what an ending!

For the most part this is like many of the Charles Bronson crime drama's. Since it is Mexican, the lead could have been played by Mario Almada or Joaquin Cordero but instead it's Armando Silvestre. His niece is kidnapped and so he wages a one man(almost) war against a drug mafia. There is a high body count, make no mistake. The plot for 90% of the picture is routine, with some cleavage thrown in to keep the male viewers awake. What sets El Secuestro de Camarena apart from the other similarly made movies is a presence more than usual of the leads' mother, played by Estela Inda(best known for the highbrow Los Olvidados(1950) and the lowbrow Robot vs the Aztec Mummy, made in 1958) and a husband wife relationship leading to divorce. There is also the participation of the popular band, "Los Invasores de Nuevo Leon" that had been together since 1978, as well as a song by one of the top composers of "corridos" Reynaldo Martinez. Even with the above, it wouldn't be worth purchasing if not for the ending. The conclusion was very rare among crime drama's at the time, and the Estela Inda dream sequence is amazing. It is also worth mentioning that the Bolo Yeung of Mexico, Augustín Bernal has a small part here, early in his career.
