- Bob Dudley: I don't know how to tell you, Dad but I've tried to, a lot of times.

- Bob Dudley: Oh, you're making it tough for me. I don't know how to say it.
- Coach Dudley: Come on, out with it. What is it?
- Bob Dudley: Alright then, I'll tell you. I can't play football the way you want me to. Now you know. I don't know what it is but I seem to lose all my nerve just when I shouldn't. I can't take punishment.
- Coach Dudley: What you're trying to tell me is that you're yellow.
- Bob Dudley: Alright, call it anything you like. All i know is, I want to quit. I never want to play a game of football again. I never want to hear about it. I never want to talk about it. I'm sick of it. I'm tired of it. I hate it!
- Coach Dudley: [with extreme scorn] You don't like football. You hate football.
- Bob Dudley: [now seated] Dad, you don't understand.
- Coach Dudley: You're absolutely right, I don't understand. I don't understand how a man, or a thing that calls himself a man, can admit that he's a coward. A measly, whimpering coward.
- Coach Dudley: My son! My son! Get up! Get up! There's one thing that I'm not going to allow you to do do and that's disgrace me publicly.
- Bob Dudley: Dad... ..
- Bob Dudley: "Coach", to you. You're still on my team, unfortunately. You're turning in no suit, you're going to play whether you like it or not. You're going to play as you've never played before. You're going to play if they break every bone in your body, if have to drag you out on the field. I'd rather do that than have the world know that I have a son that was yellow!
