That's what this is. At least, that's what it says on the end credits, even though we know it as a Fleischer Screen Song, complete with a cartoon man trying and failing to kill himself in the best screen comic tradition, going back at least to Max Linder in LE PENDU (1906), and the fast-paced title song sung by a chorus.
That's how it has been played every time I've heard it. When it's a woman singing a torch song, it's at a slow tempo, but this one is played fast. It was written in 1918 by Leo Wood in 1918, but Ted Weems' 1924 recording put it on the map and it remains a standard of male singers even today.
