  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Arthur? Arthur?
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [Gloria holds Blackie at gun point] Put 'em up Blackie
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Gloria.
  • [Jack Higgins comes over]
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Well what a charming combination. Constance Gloria Mannard and Jack Higgins. The Lady and the Lug.
  • Jack Higgins: Save your breath
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: I said put 'em up.
  • [Blackie puts his hands up]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: And remember I haven't the slightest hesitation about firing
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: The way you fired at Steve Cubacker?
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Wouldn't you like to know.
  • [Police sirens blare outside]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Police! Step back.
  • [Blackie steps back]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: . Jack get out quickly the back way
  • Jack Higgins: How about you?
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Don't worry about me I'll take care of myself now get out
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Yeah run along you big hero she'll attend to everything she has the brains.
  • [Higgins turns around and is about to punch Blackie]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Jack! Get out
  • [Higgins leaves]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Blackie just left. He had to go somewhere with the 50 thousand dollars
  • The Runt: [In a clever tone] Uh uh you're just saying that to get rid of me. I know Blackie didn't have a cent on him
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Oh yes he did. It was in an envelope. I saw him put it in his pocket
  • The Runt: Did he tell you that?
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Mmm-hmm
  • The Runt: [Chuckles] That's Blackie he's always clowning
  • [continues chuckling]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [Concerned] Well it didn't seem to me like he was clowning
  • The Runt: That's why Mr Manleder wants to see Blackie today. He's getting very fidgety about that cabbage in the apartment. He wants to get in the bank.
  • [Gloria is not amused]
  • The Runt: You think I'm kidding don't you. Well I saw Mr Manleder put that money in the safe himself just before I left
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [Gloria pretends to be relieved] Well I'm glad Blackie was only joking
  • The Runt: Well of course you don't think Blackie's crazy enough to carry a bank roll like that around with him do you? Well so long I'll be seeing you
  • [the Runt leaves]
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: [Blackie has just pretended to shoot Jack Higgins dead in front of Gloria much to her shock but really The Runt has just knocked him out. Blackie is forcing Gloria to write a confession] I Killed Steven Cubacker otherwise known as Porter Hadley. Cubacker and I were involved in a counterfeiting swindle which involved a rare edition of Dickens' Pickwick Papers. That's good.
  • [while Blackie is getting Gloria to write the confession Higgins has regained consciousness and is slowly untying himself]
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Boston Blackie had no connection to this affair. I alone am responsible for Cubacker's death. Now sign it.
  • [Gloria initially refuses but Blackie points his gun at her]
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: . Sign it! Thank you.
  • Jack Higgins: [Higgins has fully untied himself and has grabbed a gun from a nearby drawer and holds Blackie at gunpoint] Up Blackie.
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [Shocked] Jack! Alright Blackie give me the confession.
  • [Blackie hands over the confession]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: And drop the gun too
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: I don't see why theres nothing in it but blank cartridges
  • [Blackie fires the gun distracting Higgins and the two of them get into a fight. Higgins initially gets the upperhand but is soon overpowered. Gloria also burns the confession she wrote]
  • Insp. John Farraday: [Farraday, Matthews and two other police officers burst in just as Blackie punches Higgins into them] Well Jack Higgins, we've been looking for you. Get him out of here.
  • [Higgins is lead away by the two officers]
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: You surprised Inspector?
  • Insp. John Farraday: Yeah a little. Blackie you're not only wanted for murder but you've got yourself mixed up with a cheap jail breaker
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: You don't want me Inspector. There's the real killer; Gloria Mannard, Kittredge's assistant in the book shop
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [Acting innocently] Oh Inspector this is the second time I have to thank you for arriving just in time. I was in the kitchen when I heard the commotion and found the two men fighting
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Inspector this girl happens to be the wife of Jack Higgins, she killed Cubacker. She signed a confession
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [Pretending to be confused] A confession?
  • Insp. John Farraday: Where is the confession Blackie?
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Well she thinks she burned it
  • [Blackie hands Farraday a piece of paper]
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Cubacker was a double-crosser that's why!
  • Insp. John Farraday: Is that why you shot him? Oh so that's it.
  • [He opens the paper to find it blank]
  • Insp. John Farraday: Why you.
  • Horatio 'Boston Blackie' Black: Now you've got your confession Inspector and Matthews heard it. Unfortunately Ms Mannard burned the real one
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: [She sees the blank paper and tried to attack Blackie] What are you?
  • Insp. John Farraday: Get her out of here Mattthews
  • Constance Gloria Mannard: Get your hands off me flatfoot!
  • [Gloria is taken away by Matthews]
