    love over pots of tea....

This film has a lovely story that isn't your run of the mile bollywood over dramatised romeo & juliet style love story. The film itself is simple and unfortunately it shows. The film looks cheap in places and the direction is not at its best in times. The soundtrack is fantastic with lovey classic numbers such as baaton baaton me pyar ho jayega!" After several afternoon meeting with the heroine and her ever loving family. The hero comes to grips with the fact that his new best friend is actually the girl for him. it all ends very happy happy.. A good effort that is not bad. all in all a good watchable film

    The Local Train

The story of 4 christian families. 3 lives together, whereas the 4th one introduced coincidentally in the train and a movie theater. A mother, to much interested to marry her daughter, finds a man to marry her daughter with him.

Typical Bollywood flick. Nothing new. A same and simple story dragged long. Not bad as well. So many coincident ruin my interest to watch till the very end. If I tell anything about the coincident incidents it will spoiler. So watch it or not, if not, you will not miss a masterpiece.

The music is so good. The contemporary Goa city is very beautiful to enjoy. Overall a time pass.

I though the guy Henry as Mazhar Khan but he is not him.

As pleasant as it gets in just Baaton - Baaton Mey

Basu Chatterji narrates this story in a most simplistic manner capturing the day to day life of working class India ( mainly the deep rooted Indo- Catholic culture) of 1979 set in Bandra Bombay ( Mumbai )

Tina Munim stands out as Nancy along with Tony played brilliantly by the then urban india star Amol Palekar.

David Abraham as Nancy"s uncle Tom,Leela Mishra ,the Daadi, Pearl Padamse as Rosie (Nancy"s mom) and Ranjit Chowdhary as Sabhi( Nancy"s younger brother ) together creates an absorbing family drama which feels like Band-Stand's pleasant breeze.

Rajesh Roshan gives a super hit album with noted performances by Amit & Kishore Kumar.

    Plot :

Tony falls for Nancy while travelling to work in Bombay Local train. The movie takes us on a journey depicting the relationship between various characters revolving around Nancy and Tony.

    Simple But Effective

    Review By Kamal K

Superb, lovely simple film! That ambience, those light romantic moments, simple but effective dialogues, and full of smiles and laughters and very sweet songs & music!

Each character is lively, each one is imp in the story of the film, even Sabby and Henry. Tina Munim looks so so so....... beautiful!

Such films are rare, not made daily!

It's a once in a decade type of movie.

I always enjoy watching it repeatedly!

Hats off to Basu da for giving us one more supreb film after Chhoti si baat.

    Another Basu Chatterjee masterpiece

The story involves a young man and woman who travel by train to their office and fall in love. The unique thing about this film as with other Basu Chaterjee movies is it captures the life of the middle class very well.

In this movie Basu Chaterjee captures the lifestyle of the middle class urban Christian community in India authentically. Like many of his films the city of Mumbai is an important character in the movie Technically it may not be very advanced but the story and the narrative is one of the finest.

It is unfortunate that most people of my generation (I am born in 1980) have not seen this movie or even heard about it. The lack of knowledge about this movie among the young generation has prevented a good quality DVD of this movie hitting the market.

I have given it 9 out of 10.

    • Trivia
The song 'Na Bole Tum Na Maine Kuch kaha' is inspired by the Irish Patriotic song which goes 'When Johnny comes marching home'. The song was also used in the climax of Joe vs. The Volcano. The song "Dilbara" from Dhoom was later recreated as "Japanglish Song" by Octa Bella and "Makudonarudo" by Namewee. The original source maybe "Na Bole Kuch" from Baaton Baaton Mein".
