Super Mario Bros. (1985)
May 28, 2018, marks the 25th anniversary of 'Super Mario Bros.' The very first live-action adaptation of a video game, ever, was based on the hugely successful series that helped pull the gaming industry out of the 1983 crash. But when it came to its big screen potential, only one man had the vision, producer Roland Joffé.

    A classic

Super Mario Bros. is still one of the best games ever. The game has a strange concept and the graphics aren't nearly as good as anything today, but it's a classic. It's a challenging game, with famous Mario and his brother Luigi, that will never be forgotten.

    Really cool!

I've been playing this game since I was 4 or 5 years old. Now I'm 10. The main reason I like to go to my cousin Christine's house (Now she's 16 or 17, is to play Super Mario!

It's so fun, I also play the Nintendo64 mario games. My fav. N64 Mario games are Mario Cart64 and Super Smash Bros.

It's one of the coolest video games, next to Sonic Pinball.

If you have a Nintendo system (not N64 NES) or a game boy color, get it!!Play it!! Love it!!!

The King of All Video Games

Super Mario Bros. is a game I remember very fondly. It's the one that started the whole home-video-game mania, and perhaps it is best remembered for this historical aspect. But it has such a special place in my heart for a much simpler reason: It was SO MUCH FUN! Flying turtles, angry mushrooms, flashing question marks, piranha plants, twirling fireball sticks, fire flowers...and there are days when I can't get the soundtrack out of my head! The game is quite tricky in places (I've never beaten it myself, though I watched as someone else did--I was curious as to what the actual Princess looked like! I was much better at its equally delightful partner, Duck Hunt), but it always retained that sense of challenge, excitement, and fantastic charm. My mother even became addicted to it!

Unfortunately, the video game world moves very fast and tends to forget previous projects. When a new, slicker system comes out, the older model is promptly deleted--not just pushed to the background, but actually DELETED, so that you can't find a new cartridge or machine when your old one wears out and starts flashing blue on the TV screen. I think it's very sad that Nintendo and other companies forget the value of basic block graphics, simple controls, and a great game. Still, Mario and Luigi have earned their place in history. No matter what comes and goes, they will always be the ultimate video game icons.

The first video game I ever played!

I remember this being the first game I played when I was a kid. I love it along with it's sequels! The music is fun and so are the graphics! With the new games out, this game seems old fashioned, but I remember playing it and liking it.

A Benchmark in Video Game History

Super Mario was REALLY an excellent game. It didn't really matter how primitive it was, it was pure fun. I've been playing it since I was young and I really got a kick out of it. But alas, I have no more NES, so I play Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64. But still the original is one of the best.

    • Trivia
Shigeru Miyamoto had originally wanted to give Mario a dinosaur to ride on for the game, unfortunately the hardware limitations of the NES wouldn't allow for it. He was able to finally fulfill his wish in Super Mario World (1990), which ran on the far more powerful Super NES, and named the dinosaur Yoshi.
    • Goofs
At the beginning of the first level of each world (except for the first one), it shows Mario standing in front of the castle, which he had just previously cleared in the previous world. However, at the beginning of World 5, the castle is only a mini fortress instead of a full-sized castle like it should be.
    • Quotes

Mushroom Retainer: [repeated line; after Mario or Luigi defeats Bowser] Thank you Mario, but our princess is in another castle!

    • Alternate versions
In 2010, Nintendo released a limited edition red variant of the Wii console as a part of celebrating the Super Mario series' 25th anniversary. As a bonus, this version of the system came pre-loaded with "25th Anniversary Super Mario Bros", a modified version of the original NES game. The only difference is the graphics for the item blocks, which now have the number "25" on them instead of questions marks.
