Courtney Thorne-Smith stars as a small town beauty queen that has a few problems of the mental kind. She has an obsession for a man who already has a longtime girlfriend. She will stop at nothing to get him and keep him forever.
Courtney makes this above-average TV drama truly riveting with an alarmingly convincing portrayal of a beautiful psychopath. Wow! Thanks to you, Courtney, I may never date a beautiful woman again.
One thing that is hard to accept is that someone as pretty as Courtney Thorne Smith would throw themselves after a man like that. Other than that it's quite a watchable movie. A beauty queen Miss Dairy something sets her sights on a farmer. But he has a Girlfriend. Even though she briefly steals him away he goes back to his old girlfriend. So the pretty wacko gets homicidal.
Courtney is great over the top wacko. Worth a watch.

I will have to check my "archives" at home, but I am sure I have a magazine with an article about this murder and situation. I don't remember the names of the people involved, as the movie may have changed them, but I believe it may have happened in Northern Wisconsin in the 1980's. The magazine had a picture of the obsessed female, a brunette, on its cover, and other pictures inside of the young man and deceased female's family. The three belonged to Future Farmers of America or a similar club, if I remember correctly.
Unfortunately, I only saw the last 15 minutes of this movie and cannot comment on the quality of it, yet with Tracey Gold, Kyle Secor, and Courtney Thorne-Smith as the leads, I am sure it is worth watching.

He was in "Homicide Life on the Street" around this time as well. Yes, this movie does represent cheesy, made-for TV drama- but that's the fun of it!.
Tracey Gold does okay as the favored fiancée, who is murdered by someone in a small mid-western town- the title "Midwest Obsession" is better than the generic "Beauty's Revenge"- interesting that this film was marketed in other countries with a title that seemed to remind us of "Fatal Attraction".
Courteney Thorne-Smith is the "Dairy Princess" so at least whoever wrote the screenplay has a sense of humor. While this was based on a true murder, I find it hard to believe that kind of contest exists, and the winner drives a zebra-upholstered pink convertible. The scenes at the end, in the "Airstream" RV that Smith lives in are pretty amusing, albeit unintentional.
This movie proves 2 things 1) My drama teacher said try to find something good in every piece of art or trash-you might learn something and 2) Really good actors can elevate the role to something better. In this case, Secor. All in all, not the worst film ever made. And at least you aren't paying $10.00 to see it in the theatre.

- TriviaWhile much artistic license was taken in the making of this movie, it is based on the 1989 murder of Lisa Cihaski in Wausau, Wisconsin by 20-year old Lori Esker. Esker's boyfriend, Bill Buss, broke off his relationship with her and began dating Cihaski and they became engaged. Esker left school one night, drove 150 miles to Cihaski's workplace, and strangled her with a belt--Cihaski's own belt. Esker removed Cihaski's engagement ring from her finger and drove back to school in River Falls. Esker pleaded self defense, but the act of strangulation showed intent. She was found guilty of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in 1990. As in the movie, Esker was the Dairy Princess; Cihaski was a former Homecoming Queen.
