Deborah

I enjoyed watching "Deborah", even though I usually avoid seeing love stories. To me the passion of mature man, married Marek Wawrowski (Olgierd Lukaszewicz) for a young Jewish girl Debora Grosman (Renata Dancewicz) seemed to be distantly reminiscent of "Lolita". I found it credible, even though being a happily married man for many years, I may not have enough insight into that kind of uncontrolled emotion that can destroy your family and even life. But I have read that the story was based on some true events that had taken place during the Nazi occupation, and the film director Ryszard Brylski had heard this story from an old rabbi in New York. I also liked the picture of Poland just before World War II and the Nazi occupation. It added an extra dimension of tragedy to the story. To me, Olgierd Lukaszewicz did a terrific job in rendering the character of Marek Wawrowski believable, and Renata Dancewicz also gave a good performance and looked lovely.
