With Rangili "Urmila" dancing tirelessly every quarter of an hour, this movie is a feast from frame 1 to the end. Excellent performances by both Aamir and Urmaila produce some enchanting moments but it is the underplayed role by Jackie that goes to make this movie a complete entertainer. The music by A.R. Rahman is one of its own kind.
A must see.
A must see.
I loved Rangeela since the first day I've seen it. I first saw it in 1995. I started to like Urmilla. She looked really cute. I appreciated Aamir Khan's role. He usually plays the innocent quiet dude. But the Munna I saw was a remarkable act that any man in this film industry would die to have. Even in Ghulam his acting was as gr8 as a KHANDALA!! He got me in tears. It is now 2000 & I own the movie & I love it!! The songs done by A.R Rehman were good. It is a film that n-e-1 would love to see. I have a list of my favorite TOP 20 films ever. & Rangeela is 3rd. I felt bad that Aamir didn't win for Best Actor. Why is it that there is always some1 who backs his way up? I mean DDLJ just took over(my 2nd fave film.) It is upsetting that he didn't get an award. I mean Jackie got best supporting actor & Urmilla got appreciated. Ever since I saw the film, Mili was a name I loved. Our family's name of the fish is MILI. We all love Urmilla in my house. We all definitely loved Aamir from the start. His best film was JJWS, & Rangeela just led him to even more success. Jackie was a gr8 guy in the film not telling MILI of his love for her. I respected @ the fact that he gave her up to make her & Munna happy. He knows that TANHA TANHA YAHA PE JEENA, YEH KOI BAAT HAI?? Overall to be on my TOP 3 films is a good thing b/c I probably watch 300-400 films a year & most of them end up on my boring list.Rangeela is a film that will always be in my heart & the 3rd best film ever. The music by A.R was unbeatable.Esp. Tanha tanha. Asha did a good job & so did the lyrics by Mehboob. The area & background of this film was awesome. RANGEELA-I LOVE YOU.love 1 of the gr8 experienced rangeeli fans-anisha datta!!
Rangeela, directed by Ram Gopal Varma (who has made very good and very bad films) is a pretty good musical movie to watch with the family.
Even though the movie had some faults, like a typical and predictable storyline along with some editing mistakes, there were still some good things in this film.
First off, the film itself is clean and more of a family film. It has some pretty funny comedic scenes and I'm sure a lot of kids would enjoy it.
Second, the performances. Urmila Matondkar, who the film is focused on, does a pretty decent and convincing job, and also danced well in the songs. Jackie Shroff had an average performance, his performance was a typical Jackie Shroff performance. Aamir Khan, however, did a great job. In this film he played one of the first tapori street thug type of characters in Bollywood history, and he did very well. He fit in to his character to the finest and maintained the accent and style of his character throughout the film, which is very hard to do. It wows me that this is the same man who was in Andaz Apna Apna the year before. He stole the show for me.
And last, A.R. Rehman's soundtrack. This was one of his finest soundtracks, and all the songs, from "Rangeela Re" to "Yaaron Sun Lo Zaara" were all very melodious, catchy, and overall good songs which helped the film.
Overall this film is a nice film to watch with the family and to watch for Aamir Khan's classic performance.

I didn't know I was missing something until I saw this movie. Ram gopal verma has changed his genre often from love triangle, crime, horror and documentary but Rangeela has a special place among them. Urmila was seduction personified, she danced live a swan while great styling and cinematography added to the charm. Amir khan showed his early shades of tapoori(low-life bum) acting in this movie which was funny at the same time heart warming, later he acted in Ghulam on the similar lines. Jackie can't dance but this is more than compensated by his acting.
Another aspect of the movie are songs and their execution which is even more pleasing to watch than the movie itself. I must watch for any Hindi movie buff and also for a peek into early works for Ram Gopal verma.

The Plot idea of "Rangeela" is not original.. its Bollywood inspired by Bollywood itself.
Any guesses ? Well Year -1970 Movie - Mere Humsafar.. only difference here is in the old movie the director played by non other but Balraj Sahini has his eye on the lady and woes to win her, make her career etc., while the poor village boy (Jeetendra) almost looses her to the film world & glamor..
Plot very similar and identical..
Incidentally there is another Aamir Khan movie again inspired by an old blockbuster movie of 1971 and that's Caravan again starring Jeetendra, and the movie is "Mela", but that attempt was a failure, as the Original was too good.

- TriviaIt was after the release of Rangeela that Aamir Khan stopped attending Filmfare Awards. He had become upset that he did not win, or even be nominated for, the 1995 Best Actor award for his performance in the film. He also felt that for films like Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikandar (1992) and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke (1993) that he should have gotten recognition from Filmfare and after these incidents he became upset with Filmfare. But after failing to receive recognition for Rangeela is when Aamir had had enough and decided to shun Filmfare altogether.
- GoofsWhen Mili comes to Munna's room to read over her lines, a poster for Commando (1985) is hanging on the wall over a bedside table, while a calendar is on the wall above the bed. Later in the scene, the calendar disappears and the poster has shifted to the left to take its spot.
- Crazy creditsSince the film's plot revolves around an aspiring actor, the credits had images of famous yesteryear actors and actresses like Savithri, Madhubala, Hemamalini, Dev Anand, Rekha, Amitabh Bachchan, Sridevi etc.
