A sharp documentary about the misfortunate fate of democracy in Belarus, An Ordinary President, is a superb documentary movie about the disastrous political situation in this Eastern European country. It takes step-by-step approach to explain how Aliaksandar Lukashenka, the country's first ever president, cunningly won the free elections in 1994 and then abducted aboslute power to become a new dictator for its people and a puppet in the hands of Russian politicians.
The movie is ironic and sometimes even funny. But for Belarusians this kind of laughter is a very bitter one: yet one more time they failed to build a national state. And the mentality of people again was the crucial factor.
In the summer of 1998 the movie was presented on the Capitol Hill to a large audience of senators and other politicians by the director himself, Mr.Khaschevatski.
The movie is a must-see for all those interested in Eastern European political situation. It is truly an eye-opener.
