- Uncle Kashumai: Oh, grief!
- [he jumps up and down]
- Lev Arris: What's the matter, Uncle?
- Uncle Kashumai: Oh, nephew! The heart of the things that we had here, the soul of them, has been stolen! Taken by heartless infidels! Doubtless to be sold for filthy lucre!
- [he moves his face in close to Lev's while vigorously shaking his head, wobbling his cheeks and making a gargling noise]
- Lev Arris: What was this exactly?
