There is a brand new class of screw-ups at the Police Academy (1984). I've seen all episodes and I think they are mutch better than the movies. The series are cool and funny, and the screenplays are a lot better. With Casey and the beautiful Annie. If you never watch Police Academy, you better can do that soon, because it's great.
Recently I saw Heather Campbell in a movie and thought she looked familiar. I looked her up and found out she was Annie on this wacky show. My favorite things about the show were the romance between Annie and Casey, and Casey's attempts to annoy his superiors. Sgt. Jones was back doing his crazy sound effects from the movies, the Tackleberry twins (nephews of the movie Tackleberry, so much alike though one was white and one black) were inseparable and hilarious, and what Luke lacked in brains he made up for in size. Helfinger, too dumb to be in charge of anything, somehow managed to run this place in a manner reminiscent of MASH's Col. Henry Blake.
This was fun while it lasted, but I guess it didn't deserve to. We need shows like this from time to time.

After watching the Police academy movies over the years (those were not masterpieces, either, on the contrary), I was rather curious if this series was worth watching and if the jokes were good or at least somewhat better then those on the big screen. Boy, was I disappointed! I've seen parts of two or three episodes of this series and all I can say is: painful, gruesome, as bad as it can be! If you don't expect a comedy, the script is actually acceptable. If you see the title and look forward to relaxing and laughing, AVOID WATCHING IT! The "jokes" and "funny scenes" are so bad, they make you cry! I think even a kindergarten kid would have to give his best effort to smile once. Even Police Academy: Mission to Moskow was, as hard as it is to believe, BETTER than this.

and even less. The first movie of the series wasn't all that bad, but it was "Citizen Kane" compared to the turdballs that followed it. This thing's even worse. The only reason I watched it was because of Joe Flaherty from "SCTV," who I've always been a fan of. Guess this proves that nobody's perfect. I don't know how long this series lasted, but I didn't last past 15 minutes into the first episode. Absolutely painful. Yuk.
I had never seen any of the Police Academy movies. I'd be encountering the franchise, or some part of it, for the first time here. As a given, the show isn't as funny as the movies, at times trying way too hard to be funny.
While the movies had more nuance, at least I would assume, at the very least the jokes aren't unbearable, at best overly random (lest they were borrowing from the films.) The one episode I watched I managed to get all the way through, so at least they got a sense of bearability down.
It's not impossible to sit through, just corny and pales in comparison to the movie series it's based on. If you're in the mood for some cheesy screwball comedy, this is the perfect show to shut off your mind to and just have fun with it.
