Edit
Rakhee injured herself while dubbing for the film. Rakhee got so carried away with the emotional scene she was screaming very loudly. The emotional scene drained her. The next day she felt a nerve wrecking pain in her throat . She was admitted in the hospital and was told she snapped a a vocal cord. It needed to be stitched up. She went emergency surgery.
First movie to cast Sunny-Meenakshi in the romantic leads, modeled along the lines of Dharam-Hema. The movie was a hit and they went onto star in four more films. One was the multi-starrer Inteqam in the same year. The other three were all Santoshi films - Ghayal, Ghatak, Damini.
Anand Bakshi saw the film and told Rawail he did not like the climax. It was not effective as it should have been. The death given to Raza Murad was not as brutal as it should have been as compared to how badly Rakhee was treated in the film. Bakshi told Rawail that the audience would feel cheated. They needed a more impactful death for Raza Murad's character.
This film was critically acclaimed but failed at the box office. The film's cinematographer Ranjan Kothari attributed the film's failure to its weak second half. According to him, this may have been the result of the fact that director Rahul Rawail and writer Javed Akhtar had disagreed on the film's climax. Apparently, two versions of the climax were shot and Akhtar's version was eventually retained.
Rakhee Gulzar did not want to play mother to Suresh Oberoi after playing his wife. Javed Akhtar convinced her to do the role since she already played mother to Amitabh. Thru out the film,Rakhee calls Suresh Oberoi by his name "Amrit" and not beta.
